A "68" 427 in box on Ebay???
How does an engine get put aside for 35+ years without an interest to use

It's a service block from 1973 , hence the "D3' on the upper part of the tag. A marine motor.

Marine engines rotate in an opposite direction of an auto engine. An engine can rotate either way, but think about the oiling system modifications you would have to do. Oil pump will spin backward for instance.
Strange it's advertised as a 1968 if indeed the "tag" indicates 1973.

The D code is probably for the engine shipping/ machining date. The block appears to be pre '68 since that was about the time the 427 service blocks started appearing with the reinforcing ribs externally like the other FE's. This doesn't appear to have the ribs. The rods are 428SCJ, observe the shortened head on the bolts (also the part #).

Ernie ,
I know marine motors were built conventional and counter rotating ( I worked in your backyard at Ala wai Marine a couple years) I was curious what Robert picked up that made him think this was a marine application block.

Marine motors only turned counterclockwise when used in twin screw applications. The port engine turned counter and the starboard engine clockwise. So if it was a marine application, you would have to know what side it came from. I don't believe it is that difficult to change them back, just a cam and a few other items.

I've got the same block
I don't think there is anything marine about it. It's a service block, spare parts for whatever 427 you need to fix.

Clois,
NO!
I have no idea who this one belongs to. Contrary to some folklore, I do NOT have a lock on Sideoiler blocks. I wish I did.

It's not a marine motor. Those aren't drilled for side oiling. The one on Ebay is. They also have bronze core plugs. Looks like Lemans cap screw rods to me.
Steven

Note how the side galley bump has a slice throught it and the the three plugs are not there.
