Default texas shootout

hey guys
james baldwin brought this up a while back and ken smith and i have checked into the event to be held in goliad. by the way, goliad is southwest of victoria. its a timed run over a i mile straight. if the weather stays the way it is now, ken and i plan to cruise up saturday morning and watch. anyone else intersted in meeting us there? looks like we will be the only two from corpus.

hey guys
ken smith in his era 427, don cooper in his late model corvette, and yours truely in his lone star fia made the trip to goliad for the shootout. drove through the the aftermath of a shower leaving corpus and then had a pleasant trip up the back roads to the event. actually, the event was held on an old military airport half way between beeville and goliad. it wasn't a real big event as for as attendance, 4-5 motorcycles, about 25 cars and 30-50 spectators. the top speed was registered by one of the motorcyles at 201, with another at 197. the fastest car was a twin turbo zo6 corvette that was timed at 191. all the rest were around 170 on down. most all of the cars were corvettes or vipers. one 65 shelby gt 350 ran once and then broke the third member on the second run. didn't run that fast the first time. the event had first time problems in a small turnout and to much time between each run. still, was neat to see cars blast along at a high rate of speed. of cours everyone that came up to our cobras wanted to know how fast we would run. we said that we were there just to watch. some confusion on tech for the cars was clarrified that to run we didn't need a full roll cage. the guy running the event said that he plans to have four events each year and would like to see some of the cobras participate. for those of you that want to leagaly see how fast your cobra will go check out their site www.nasatx.com for the upcoming events. trip back was a lot faster as we stayed on the main highways. found one little shower and most of the butterflys in south texas on the way back. nice clean up job on sunday. well, back to work.
