Question Questions about building a Cobra

I talked with Tax Office today about registration, title, etc. for a kit car. I think I understand most of it.

The main question I have is about what type of engine that I can get and what are the emission issues?

For example: I was going to buy a crate engine from ford that has a carb. on it. What happens if I move back to Houston? Can it pass the emission test?

Does Texas have an exemption for replica cars?

Any help would be appreciated.

Does anyone know of the website for Texas that covers these emission issues?

You can put any FORD engine you want to in your Cobra.I've heard the chevy engines will get you jail time though.

I am in DFW area and just received my first Cobra. Had to take it in for inspection and it is the same inspection you have to do on any pre-emmision vehicle - OPERATIONAL TEST ONLY - cost me $12. Basically means all the lights, horn, turn signal, brakes etc must work. I have 69 camaro and they do the same test on it - I LOVE TEXAS!!!!

Of course at the same time it took the kid inspecting it about an hour to get to the drive test part of it because they were all fighting about who got to do the road test!!!!

I have an Everrt-Morrison kit that came set-up for corvette suspesiion and a GM small block. I apoted for a 406 Lingenfelter. I bought the kit used from someone that never started on it. I have had the car on the road for two years now and have been able to elude jail time so far. Hope to see you in Austin this spring. Oh bty I have had no trouble with the Tx. state inspections

What Jim ("the Blue Devil") didn't tell you, is that when the Houston group gets together, we make him park on the other side of the lot!

... or else keep his hood closed!
