I'm not sure if I am supposed to make an acceptance speech, but I feel honored that I was elected/appointed president of the TCC a week ago, and nobody has asked for my resignation yet! Bear with me and my poor typing skills and I'll post a couple of things anyway. Even if you don't like me, read this anyway. I'll try not to get too darn wordy.
This was my 5th annual Austin meet and it was also the best. It was great to see folks that I haven't seen since last year and the Houston group I see all the time. The cruise was awesome, but the nightly parking lot festivities were the best. Thanks to all of the TCC members that made all this possible.
I'm lucky that I am part of the Houston club and get to run with a tight knit bunch of guys and gals who love to get together at the drop of a hat. I am hoping that this happens in Austin, Dallas, Corpus, and San Antonio too. I'm not going to make many suggestions, but I do think we should have more "get-togethers" throughout the year. There are weekends at Tony Mendez's place in Lockhart, Paul Cass has a car show/cruise in Corpus, Mark Bishop is putting a weekend together another great weekend in Conroe, and there are others in the planning stages. One thing I'd like to do is meet halfway with Austin on a Saturday for lunch and of course, do the same with the Dallas bunch. Sure, Texas is a big place, but with the roads we have connecting us, an all day road trip can be a blast.
I hear a lot of people say that they didn't attend their monthly meeting because of the weather. If it's raining, drive something else. It's not just about the cars, it's the people. The cars and Club Cobra is just what brought us to the dance. We only get out what we put into the TCC. If you hear of someone building a Cobra, drop by and give them a hand, or at least drink all their beer. We need young members, and I would like to think that they need us too.
Let's get out and drive these things. Call another member and see if they want to cruise with you. If their car's broke, pick them up in your Cobra and ride a little, and see if you can help.
One more thing: Post on Club Cobra, local Groups, Gasholes, TCC website, or wherever else TCC members frequent. Communication is important, and in this day, it's so easy. OK, I'll shutup now. Later, David.

BTW, if you read this, make a comment. Say anything. Just acknowlege you read it.

David,
Congratulations are in order and well deserved! There are a lot of very fine gentlemen and ladies in the club that could serve as president, but i feel they picked the best of the best for 2006. Have a great year and we'll see you at one of the events.

Thumbs up

David,

Congratulations on being elected President! I agree with your comments about it being the people that are important. The cars are just the common demoninator.

David,
You rock! Truer words were never spoken.

I remember when you posted on the Houston yahoo site about meeting the Dallas group halfway between the two cities. I spent two hours on yahoo maps and Mapquest trying to find someplace with a parking lot. Poor Alan just started laughing at my "well, what about...?" ;-) But I sure tried and personally, I'd love to pack a picnic lunch and do it that way. Screw the cities, who needs a sit down restaurant to have a good time?

I, for one, am definitely planning to attend the meet in Conroe. Alan has taken this Damn Yankee on a pretty wide tour of Texas but it's generally only been to towns with deer leases and Dairy Queens. It was only the TCC meet in Austin that prompted him to take me to Austin. And I STILL haven't made it into Austin proper. So I've got big plans for our trip to Houston area in the fall.

Congrats David! You are a well loved member of this organization and it is to your credit that your whole local group loves you so much!

Colleen

Thanks Colleen. How about Crockett,Texas? What better Texas historical name than that? Also a state forest there too.
BTW, am I going to be forced to "moon" the crowd in Conroe like last year? The strange couple passing by didn't quite know what to think.
