Do we have an expert on installing wire headlight stone guards?

Hey Bernie - looking at your picture you could be my neighbor. Your car looks great. I'm completely stumped on how to mount the brackets for the stone guards. It's ashame you really don't live near me. If you ever do decide to make a trip here, please let us know, we have a great group that you would enjoy meeting. We would be happy to make you some "veggiemite (sp) tacos"

Jim,

The guards I have clip in behind the headlight rim. They push on and the rim then presses on and has a screw located in the bottom.

I think these may be different to your set up.

Guess after seeing my car you understand the link between Kristen and me with our color/paint set up.

Kristen kindly advised me about the colour a few years ago when I was at that stage of build. I caught up with her in London Ohio afterwards.. No Vegemite tacos or sandwiches..

Jim, maybe you could find some 'clip on' type guards??? (slide over rim, like bernie said, and 'hook on'???)
there is a site that advertises on here that would probably have them. Cobra Accessories???
Now if you have some you're 'stuck with' then maybe you can rig it in a way that clamps onto the rim. Good luck!

Bernie and I go way back, and one of these days we'll have him down for a good ol fashioned Texas round up!
He's known Jay and several of the Texas group a lot longer than he's known me. He's an honorary Texan.
Bernie, I'd love to have you come visit! Just let me know.....

We're still hoping to make it down your way sometime. But not this summer.....

have fun at Knott's.

Hey Kristin - I bought the guards from Cobra Accessories and they came with no instructions. Unfortunately, they have also been zero help. I think I'll go to the national Club Cobra site to see if someone can send me digital photos. In Austin, there was a guy from Corpus who had a beautiful blue FIA, who had the stone guards. I'm thinking his name was Paul Cass?

Also, I'm interested in learning more about the fund raising poker run in May.

That's got to be Paul you are talking about. Beautiful car for sure. Not sure what his username is, but if I run across it, I'll let him know you've got some questions on here.

yes, Paul Cass. Great looking 289.
Post this same question on "All Cobra Talk" and you will surely get plenty of replies.

and, btw, it's Kristen with an "E" not an "I".

oh, found out yesterday the 'poker run' is 'off'. It is being sponsored by a church/benefit type thing, and the general consensus by the powers that be decided that it was too much like gambling to offer a poker run. guess the word poker and playing cards scared them off. they are still doing the carshow, but now I'm not as interested. May still end up doing that one, though. I'll keep you posted.
I was more interested in the poker run than the show! Poker- cards- Baptists= trouble (I know, I went to Baylor for a while! )

Sounds like Jim is having the same luck I had with Cobra Accessories. Bought the twin pusher fans from them, which came with no wiring or mounting instructions or hardware. When I called, they explained that I could easily fabricate a mounting bracket and weld them onto an upright brace at the radiator. Sounds really easy, huh? Now, if I could just find that machine shop I misplaced....

Jim,
I have little doubt that the rock screens you have are the same ones used on off-road Jeeps,etc.. I had them on my Jeep.I don't remember exactly how the install went, except it was very simple.Unbolt and bolt back on.

I would suggest calling a local 4-wheel/off-road retail store or shop.

I'm still trying to reach Paul Cass and see how he mounted his. However, we have a local NAPA guy that can mount them for me. The headlight ring is going to have to be modified (grinded/slotted) to allow the mounting brackets to extend through to mount the basket. Right now I feel this is the way I'll go.

FYI - The 4x4 place I went to referred me to Pep Boys and NAPA. Both have the same one I have.

Looked at the photo on the Finishline site after reading how you have to slot it.
The ones I had where self contained. They had tabs as part of the screen. The tabs where attached to the retaining ring with the 3 screws that already used to mount the retaining ring/headlight.
I was just out in the garage taking a close look at some 7" headlights to finally remember .
