Only a 68 car field?????? I thought the 43 cars they run now was a little too many, but 68 is unbelievable.

Amazing there wasn't any fire. They didn't even know how to SPELL fuel cell at that time.

I recall an interview with Richard Petty, LATE in his career. He always wore cowboy boots when racing and finally someone talked him into trying some race shoes.

He was saying how much nicer they were than cowboy boots, and started wearing them regular! Can you imagine wearing boots while racing your Cobra?

I was born and raised in Indianapolis and I can remember back in the "50's (I'm really dating myself here), when the drivers in "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing" wore partial helmets, (no face protection) T-shirts, Levi's and street shoes or sneakers. And MANY of the cars had no roll bars, it was generally accepted that if you got upside down you were history. Times have sure changed! These days Tony Stewart can get airborne, come down on the roof, slide down half the straightaway and climb out smiling!
