Default DFW February meeting

OK, the days are getting longer and warmer. January's head count was good, but the car count was weak.......dang it.

The six cars that were there were my favorite cars that day because they were driven.

Let's plan ahead for Feb, so we can get back up to 15 or more like we always have. Let's start ramping up for the Cobra DFW campaign to Austin right now!

Suggestions for the February venue are now being seriously considered.

Please submit your preference early and often.

Default Oh, please, please, please...

Okay, I know I don't have one yet, but I really want to see as many as possible prior to making a decision (especially a Hurricane (hint hint)).

Has anyone seen our BEAUTIFUL courthouse down here in Waxahachie? The perfect backdrop for that lovely "Cobra and Texas, what could be better" picture you always wanted?

Any number of restaurants down here, but more important, lots of sweet country backroads to "unwind" on. There are many more reasons, but I will let you dwell on these for a moment

C'mon guys (and gals), when was the last time you went South?

I would have no problem with it, since I have always wanted to see "downtown" Waxahachie.

BUT I know a lot of folks have weekend family obligations that make it tough to get away on Saturday for very long.

I think it would be a good location for bit longer drive depending on the weather that day.

I think Waxahachie would be great and the courthouse would be a cool backdrop. Could we leave the cars at the courthouse and walk to a near by restaurant?

John D - Did you say you were driving down to Austin on Friday? Right now there at least four cars driving down and I think we need to caravan for safety sake

Smile Hmmm...lets see...

There is parking all around the courthouse, but I am not sure what it would take to "block off" some spots. I can look into it if there is interest.

As for restaurants within walking distance, 2 come to mind.

Courthouse cafe is catty corner across the street. Brand new bar and grill type place, and you could see the cars from the restaurant (provided they were parked on the south side of the courthouse). I would say they are good, but not in the same league as were we were last week.

An older restaurant is called 1879 Chisolm trail. It is directly across the street from the courthouse (also south side). Been a long time since I ate there, but think along the line of Mom & Pop restaurant. Nothing fancy, but very (stereo)typical Texas fare.

I believe the Rogers Hotel (also a historic landmark, and thought to be the first building built in Waxahachie) has a restaurant, but I am not sure.

Walking distance, but not really within sight of the cars is the College Street Pub. The name says it all, and the food is pretty good.

I am sure there is more, and if there is interest, I would be happy to by your "man on the ground" to do the research.

Hey, guys! I've been thinkin'.........

What if we didn't do the Feb meet in Waxahachie, but we did a POKER RUN to Waxahachie??

I've been wanting to do one for a long time, and since no one else has organized one, maybe Joe and I can do that. But on a non-'first Saturday'.

Now, all that being said, if ya'll want to do the Feb. meet in Waxahachie, I'll try to be there, but not sure.

Anyway, I'd be willing to organize a Poker Run, of sorts.

I think a Waxahachie run would be a great time on a cool spring Saturday. I'm just thinking that the chances of a nice day on Feb 3rd are a bit remote. I would hate to drive the F-150 that far. I was thinking the Chammps in Irving would be good. We had a large turnout there last year on a fairly nasty day, and we all got home before the rain.

Default Newbie Question

Okay, forgive the complete newbie question (and feel free to PM me if it is something better taken off line) but:

What's a poker run?

You,the new guy, puts up a cash fund with hints as to where it is.
Then we ride around in the Cobras until it is found and then regroup an have a Poker Party with your money.
I think you'll enjoy it.

You go to different pre-assigned places along a route and pick up a playing card. Repeat. When you reach the last place, the one with the best poker hand wins. Google will give you lots of sites and variations.
Some folks have side bets on who will finish first, which is where some racing may ensue.

alright, I have been all over the texas forum, and can't find the post regarding where we are actually going to meet this Saturday!!

I was SURE i saw somewhere that John D. suggested the Champp's in Irving???? Did i dream this up???

Anyway, i'm posting Champp's in Irving... don't remember the address.....
somebody chime in here with it, please.

Also, Jay has invited any and all that want to come by his shop after the meet to come and see his new arrivals.

Champp's in Irving. 10:30, informal gathering, lunch @ 11.

Automobile 'coming out' party at Jay's, immediately following, I'd say somewhere between 1-1:30.

Jay's shop address:
"the address is 2452 Fabens rd suite L. If you need directions give me a call on my cell 972-742-2594."

Would somebody please call Champp's in Irving and set this up??? I've done a few- not my turn!!!

Kristen

Done!!!!

I've reserved for 30. Meet at 10:30 on the south side facing the freeway and adjacent to the enclosed (heated) patio where we eat. Anyone without their exotic car WILL be flogged. I'm not driving all the way from Rockwall in the cold to be among 5 others again.

BTW: Scott, my daughter Sarah and myself have already toured Jay N's Garage-Mahal. Well worth the trip. Also, I think Jay has found a new novice race car driver in training for anything that doesn't go too fast for her father to watch.

Been too busy to check out the messages!

Champps in Irving is on the southeast corner of hwy 114 and MacArthur Blvd., in Las Colinas area.

Coming from the East, you can take the G. Bush to 114, then go south about a block to MacArthur.

Anyone else here tired of this dreary cold weather......geez I bet only a couple of sunny days since New Years. Even so, a drive in the Cobra makes the most of it.

I am hoping to have one update to my car by then.......I went ahead and put in "proper" Cobra seats to replace the high back ones. BUT I may still keep them around because for a long ride they sure are comfortable on backside.

OK folks,

Weather prediction is low 40's for Saturday. Who is daring enough to show with their top down? If less cars than January's meet, I'm driving the Volvo. (Sorry John)

If your braving the elements, please chime in.

I'm in for braving the elements. My exotic will be staying in its "parking place" for yet another meeting though.
