Hey, any reference back to "the good ole days" I think is great, as long as it's not a facade (like the Mustang II or the 442 of 10 years ago) and it really has the performance to back it up.
The Hemi, Charger, GTO. Shelby 500 and now the KR sound like they have the cajones to resurrect the name and legend.
More power to 'em. Let's educate the 12 year olds that have no clue what a Shelby GT500 KR was or what it is now.
Somehow that's how we learned. This is our chance to explain where the name and the original came from.

John,
I don't think you can blame the dealers for the price of the Shelby GT 500 or Ford GT. Both cars have MSRPs from Ford that are clearly published on the cars. It's the public and something called supply and demand that sets the price. If know one wants one for over MSRP then MSRP will be the price! The one that really loses is Ford, as they are not benefiting from the public's driving up prices at all.

True, but the GT500 will be plentiful, it is not a limited run from Ford, 9K+ units are planned with 2008 being delayed, more may be produced.
If people had patience, we'd all win....dealers, Ford, customers. If people feed into the hype for this 4000 lb boat, which is currently happening...it will continue to happen.
I'll give a dealer a few grand over list for the newest piece of bling. But when they rape the consumer, I hope people stay away in droves. Let the GT500 sit on the lots and cost them money.

I recently visited a local dealer after work last week and was shell shocked to see their asking prices.
-Vista blue with white stripe GT 500. $79K....I told them they were NUTS!!!!!
-"Never sold" 2005 Ford GT....$205K
-Shelby Mustang GT for $48K (this car was white with silver stripes and the poorly laid white tape used for the hood scoop was full of air bubbles....pretty sad.
GT 500 KR??????.......call your financial advisor and go rob a bank!

Gene - whenever you see that occuring it most likely means they DON'T want to sell those cars. But if they do it will come an insane margin that then makes it OK.
BTW, they aren't nuts just a bit brighter than a handful of the customers.

An opinion, Ford Motor Company does gain when the special models are sold at inflated prices. The individual dealer's net profit is higher which allows them to price other vehicles more competively , thereby maintaining their overall profit margin. The higher prices work for a time until the dealer inventories start to increase and/or demand for the latest has diminished.
Most recent edition of AutoWeek did not have any classfied ads for the GT, new or pre-owned, previously there were 4 to 5 on a weekly basis which started at well over $200K and gradually started to decline.
The more cars the dealer sells, more production at the Ford factories for the non-special models and not having to offer discounts or no/minimum interest loans.
Granted it is last year's model, but a new never registered 2006 Dodge Viper SR10 Coupe is selling for $79,500 with a MSRP of $90,695, discount of $11,195 , even before some bargaining, no demand or ?

I stopped at a Ford Dealer today to look at the Parnelli Jones Saleen Mustang.
Now when this car was at the NY Auto Show last year, the projected price was low 50s. When it finally came to market, the MSRP was $58K and change.
This dealer wanted a $6K premium on top of that and said since it was the last day of the month, he could 'work that number a little bit'.
Anyone willing to pay these prices for a new car that has an unrealized value as a collectable is C-R-A-Z-Y.
I will never pay $50K+ for a Mustang, its just lunacy.
