Default Excellent!

Hmmm .. I didn't ask, but thanks for the link, Chris Is that safety strap required by the tracks? How stable is this mount? Any jittering evident in the video?

Anybody have any new recommendations on HDD image stabilized video cams? I'm thinking maybe $1500 or under, not pro grade.

Don,

this is funny... it is the same camera mount

Gary,

As for jitter it was good the last time I used the camera. If you are looking for a good camera for use in a car, there are a few that use flash memory... No moving parts (well in the record path)

Gary,

Bad news, you will have to change your suspension to get optimum performance of the video setup.

I use an SV Technologies mount for my stills and an IO Port for mounting my small video camera (Canon Elura 100).
If I'm using both cameras I mount the SV facing forward on the roll bar and shooting over my shoulder and the IO Port on the passenger side of the roll bar.
The SV is very stable but, since my roll bar is angled slightly back in my ERA, it's difficult to get a good alignment with it swung out to the side. I have, however, used the SV successfully with my large Panasonic video camera (DVC-30). Just took some creative adjustments.

John per our conversation at the last meeting I thought I would bring this thread back to the top. For those that are looking for a mount for Austin... this is a good choice

Default Video Cameras?

Bwana, how did the Hero cameras work out? I had such bad luck with my HDD Canon, I am looking at a solid state solution. But the professional race cams with a recorder are $$.

Anybody else have a system they like?

I have a JVC 32x, model # GR-D350U, bought at wally world for less than 200 bucks a couple of years ago works fine, good sound and video...about the size of your hand....only drawback is the battery is only good for about 45 minutes and there's no 12volt adapter for this model, must re-charge with a 110 volt outlet....

The mount,I made myself, clamps to the cross bar in my 65 Mustang road racer and the way I made it, it can swivel side to side, or up/down. Took me about an hour to make it from stuff I had in the shop....

Don't have any vibration problems, but, I did take a piece of cork gasket material I had and glued to the camera mount base to give it some "cushion".

Sammy,

The cameras work great for what they are, if you remember to turn them on and they are fairly cheap in comparison to most other options. Yes I would buy them again.

I also have a Canon FS100 I have been using it captures to a memory card and I have never had one problem with the camera and I probably have the stiffest suspension in the group. I can’t remember what I paid but it wasn’t that bad I thing the $200 range.

Gary, I have also narrowed things down to the FS100. Cheaper than the bullet motorsport camera/digital recorder systems. Will give it a try. I have a nice Canon HG10 hi-def HDD camcorder that I have no use for now. It just locks up as soon as I start the engine.

Default good camera and mount, need recorder

I have a Lorex bullet color camera (12V) that takes a really nice vids, but I am wanting to upgrade to a hard drive camera that takes the video input, and supports a remote mic, so I can move the mic around and get a quality sound.

The mount I made is a custom billit aluminum clamp that clamps on the rollbar.

Any ideas on a recorder/camcorder?

E
