Goodyear Billboards: 65mph vibration?
I know there have been countless postings on the Goodyear Billboards pros and cons, but I decided to go with them and absolutely love the look and overall performance of them.
The one issue I have is they do have a vibration when I'm driving between 62 and 67mph. I know several others have this same issue with Superformances and the Goodyear Billboards. My question is this Goodyear Billboard vibration common on all makes (CXS, Backdraft, Factory five, ERA, etc..) or just the Superformances? And Any recommendations on how to get rid of it? I have already had them road force balanced off and on the car. Thanks, Dan |

This has been beaten to death. The tires are not out of balance. All tires can be dynamically and/or dimensionally out of round. There are two things you can do to reduce the problem. The first is to have the tires "trued" so that they are round. There are many shops around that provide the service. The second is to install a "rag joint". i have the same vibration between those exact same speeds. I had the car aligned but still had the vibes. In spring, Im going to get them balanced. But it sounds like that wont work either. So now, i keep it at 60 or 70 :)

I don't experience that problem with my Hi-Tech. I have driven about 3,000 miles on these tires.

Have them "Road Force" balanced and call it a day!!:D

Hmmmmm..........I have a Mercury Marauder that came with BFG KDWS tires from the factory and it was very smooth until I bought new BFG's....had the same kind of harmonic vibration in the 60-70 MPH range, JUST WHER YA DRIVE...Grrrr!!:mad: We determined it to be tread harmonics and UNFIXABLE!!:CRY:
Tried everything with no luck and almost all of us Marauder folks had the same results so we moved on to other brands though the field is very limited for these cars!!:confused: I ended up with Kumhos up front and Nittos on the back and it is smooth as silk!! I don't like mixing brands and tread designs but it was my only recourse......I know you want to stay with the "Billboards" and hopefully the truing will fix you up.....Good Luck!! |
They must be out of round or inconsistent sidewall stiffness. Road force balance should address the sidewall stiffness variation or indicate the tire or rim is out of spec. It is not the balance, rember you can balance a ceiling fan but I dont you can roll down the road on it LOL. If rim is concetric to within .008" and true (side to side)to within .008" then you must look at tire.

i have had the same problem for about 4200 miles now i have found traveling at 60mph to be quite beneficial and boring. good being no vibrations , good fuel milage and no tickets. bad being i am bored to death at 60. i am going to try a roadforce balance and see if i need to shave the tires so there are round. whats odd is............ i don't have this problem all the time just about 80% of the time anyother time it's smooth. sometimes i think it might just be the road itself..............but i just don't know. i do know that i am sick of the wobbles.

I had exactly the same problem. A vibration from the back of the car between 60 and 65mph. Balancing did not solve the problem. The problem was, as suggested above, that one of the rear tires was out of round. The rim was fine, it was the tire that was causing the vibration. I had the tire trued at a local place in Stamford Ct and now it is driving like a new car. Problem solved for $30.
