Question from the UK

Ok chaps, I must have read every bit on the Goodyear Billboards and Blue streaks etc.

I am looking at some Billboards as they seem the best for every day use on the Cob.

Again over here there is the question is are they legal or not, not DOT approved, and again some garages say as long as they have the legal tread requirement they are ok.

However, it is mentioned that the side wall is some what thinner and suspect to pot hole and damage etc, BUT has anyone ever ripped the side wall out and damaged one badly when using them for normal every day Cobra driving. Not racing or track work, just your normal every day Sunday blat.

And the reason being apart from expensive they cost a s*it load to get delivered to the UK and then our wonderful Government want 17.5% on top of everything for tax.

First off, they are not DOT approved.

Both the tread and side walls are thinner. Extra thickness results in extra heat when the tire is being raced. Heat destroys tires.

If you read a thread that I started regarding my review of my new Avon tires, I hopefully give a good comparison of the BB's verse the Avons.

Thanks, but like I said I have read the reviews and know about the DOT etc etc, what I would like to know is has anyone actually suffered because of the thinner side wall in reality with a rip or split etc

Okay, let me try again to answer your question.

I had approximately 8000 miles on mine when I pulled them off. No issues regarding side walls or the tread area.

The reason they are not DOT approved is that since they have thinner cross sections, they will not hold up to the side walls being rubbed into curbs, nor will they hold up to rough railroad crossings or pot holes. As long as they are not damaged during mounting (happens more often that people know), and you do not curb them and avoid pot holes you should be fine.

I ran a set on the street for a month.
Got chicken and use them for "track day" and shows now.
No damage, just nervous.

Hi guys, I actually changed my billboards against a set of AVON CR6ZZ here in germany. The Avon's run very good on street and perfect on track. A lot of grip and the handling in fast turns is very good too. Okay, they don't look that great as the Billboards, but I think they are the better legal choice with better performance....what do you think ?

My solution is to get 2 sets, one track, one street.
