Any interest in Mag wheels Cobra 427 SC Mark II
I am making Cobra 427 SC Mark II wheels in Magnesium.
$4000 a set. 15 x 7.5 fronts 15 x 9.5 rears If you are serious about buying a set please contact me. KressCobra@gmail.com Thanks, Fran |
Fran,
Can you share more details here on the forum about the wheels and yourself? Is the backspacing per vintage, etc? 6 pin? Any pics of previous runs? Thanks! |
Rodney, Fran is well-known within the Shelby/GT40 circles.
Yes, he's made other runs of the magnesium Cobra wheels, but the wheels cannot have any Halibrand markings on them since they're not authorized by Halibrand, though they look exact. The wheels are made from different molds than the Halibrands, since the Halibrand molds cannot be used. http://saacforum.com/index.php?topic=6593.0 |

Rodknock,
I realize that. I was just 'putting it out there'.:) People might see 1 post from Fran and not know any more than that. When you're on the hunt for Mags, you pick these things up quick. |

Yes, when it comes magnesium wheels, I'm like a "dog on a bone." Kinda like Patrickt when it comes to hydraulic roller valvetrain maintenance or lack thereof. |

We're more alike than just the obvious. ;) |
Can't imagine what would happen if a Magnesium 427 Cammer hit the market? Get "outa the way"
|
I will post a picture of the wheel as soon as I am able, in the next day or three.
I will post more complete data with regard to backspacing, appearance, coatings, etc. Thanks, Fran |
Well, count me interested, subject to the details you've mentioned.

He told me about these wheel a while ago and they will be nice. As stated, they should be like 1965 time capsule items save for the name cast in them and that the mag alloy used will be better! |

Send me pictures so I can post for you..................... CSX2375R is coming along. |
One of my question is....I'm curious to find out if the wheels will be coated with the Dow 7 dichromate coating.
|
Fran, there are a number of different companies making the S/C wheels these days. I suspect if someone really wanted to shake things up, they might consider making well-cast, lightweight Sunburst wheels, and sell a set of them for under $4k.

When Fran is good and ready, a few details on his next run of the magnesium S/C wheels would be great. Fran, will there be any markings on the wheels? I'm not sure about the first production run from Halibrand, but the later production runs of Halibrands had the wheel's size "15x7.5" or "15x9.5", the words "COBRA II" and the number "3007" or "3008" on the exterior side of the wheels. On the backside of the wheel, just the numbers "3007" or "3008" and wheel size again. :D |

If I'm not mistaken, you left off the Cobra badge from your Kirkham but want 'Halibrand' on a replica wheel? Or maybe you don't want it to say 'Halibrand'. No flame, just an honest question.%/ |

Would I rather have a set of REAL magnesium Halibrands on my car? Yes, but not having the name on the wheels won't discourage me from buying a set of generic magnesium Cobra S/C wheels from Fran. They would still make my car lighter by about 20-30 lbs. Which means there would be less weight on my tires and garage slab      In terms of badges, I'm not sure what I would do if I had a painted car, but leaving them all off on a polished Kirkham, or even a brushed finish for that matter, makes sense to me. Hopefully that answers your question, though it may sound strange. |
Doesn't sound strange. I just didn't know if it was a label thing.
Or maybe you didn't want the 'Halibrand' embossing to save that extra fraction of a gram of magnesium:LOL: I might better my ride by shedding 30 lbs my damn self. |

At this juncture, I would just like a set of magnesium wheels. But that Dow 7/Dichromate (whatever it is) coating may be a deal breaker for me.
