LOL.

Sorry, they do nothing for the car, glad you sold them.

Inefficient braking, sluggish acceleration, bad roadholding due to higher centre of gravity, speedo incorrect, "pimp my ride" looks, the list goes on.

17 inch Halibrand copies would be my choice.

Default Tried out some 20" wheels today.

I have 17" compomotive knock offs and they look good. 15" original style wheels look the best, I went for 17" to fit large brakes and get a better tire selection.

People that drive round with very large diameter wheels and very low profile tires, are silently saying "look at me I have wank wheels"
KevinW and henrik like this.

18's here, wheel size debated elsewhere. If you are performance oriented go with 17's or 18's even better, if not and want to be "authentic" then 15's. If 15's, make sure you run with the right rubber, the '66 Shelby Cobra 427 S/C had 185x15 front and 195x15 rear. Otherwise they'll look wrong and you will be silently saying "look at me, I'm 16 and I have rat fink hot rod wheels".

And debated above too.

15" aluminum wheels with 15" tires are lighter than 18" aluminum wheels with 18" tires. So if you desire light-weight wheels and tires for performance, go with the smaller wheels and tires.

As for stock size tires, that's pure unadulterated NONSENSE. Please name a couple or few performance cars in automotive history was purchased new and then on "Day 2", said owner did NOT go out to the local tire seller buy bigger tires?

Yep, all those Porsche, BMW, Mopar, Chevy, Ford, etc. owners kept those factory stock-sized tires on those factory stock-sized wheels.

The stuff you read on the Internets nowadays.

Yes, part of it is modern compounding but the steering response is so much more precise with low aspect ratio's I would never go back. There is also the problem of tire distortion under high loads with large aspect ratios especially with poor suspension geometry. There is a reason that the automobile and tire companies gravitated toward larger wheel diameters, they are better.
The weight savings argument is a penny wise pound foolish proposition.

My point exactly, so don't sell 15" wheels running 295-335 rubber as authentic or classic 'cause they ain't.

Wha? Saving weight is penny wise pound foolish? Why did you buy a JBL then? Was it for the light weight maybe? Why do they make aluminum heads and blocks and carbon fiber bodies? Save weight maybe? Why do they produce and sell magnesium castings? Save weight maybe?

Bruce's info, if correct, is 20-30+ years old. And he's one person, not a great sample size. There are plenty of racers, using smaller lighter wheels and tires on factory-limited fenders.

As for authenticity, I have no idea WTF you're talking about.

Your argument is trying to justify what? Buying a JBL, with 18's or what are you trying to sell here? Because I'm not buying it. Maybe others will, but I don't.

There comes a time when simple logic with tried and true performance gains is just too much for some to grasp, you would be one of those people RodKnock.

Dodge Viper - 1st versions 17" now 18"
Newer Corvettes - 17" and 18"
Ferrari - 18" up to 20"
Lamborghini - 18" and 19"

"Bruce's info, if correct, is 20-30+ years old. And he's one person, not a great sample size. There are plenty of racers, using smaller lighter wheels and tires on factory-limited fenders."

... too funny, 20-30 years old? "factory-limited fenders" = I'm stuck using small wheels lol.

You seem to be very preoccupied with SIZE. Not surprising, but you may want to do some reading on the subject and Dr. Sigmund Freud has written volumes on the topic of size. Specifically, defense mechanisms and ego anxiety

Yammer all you like about SIZE, but I'm talking about WEIGHT or the lack thereof. However, if you desire run 17's or 18's on a traditional authentic appearing Cobra (i.e., Shelby, Kirkham, ERA, SPF, etc.), then the larger Halibrand-like wheels and tires will be far heavier and simply look very odd, at least to me and others.

Lastly, I'm not "stuck" using "small wheels." First, I can buy whatever wheel I want (have 3 sets boxed in the garage for various cars). Second, my daily driver Toyota has 19's, whoop-dee-doo.
