Default Avon vs Billboards

I got a chance to drive my car just now up to speed with the new Avons installed.
I had Billboards and the car was all over the road, not fun to drive at all. WOW.... I installed the new AVONS and let me say it is the best $2k I have EVER spent, its a whole new car, not even close. Up top 100mph and its like butter... one finger on the wheel vs being scared to death thinking you will die if you hit a groove in the road... If you are on the fence on what tire to buy GET THE AVONS no brainer.

Guess I am missing out as I still run Billboards.
Maybe buggy springs are better suited to BB or maybe I am just simply missing out.

Jeff, what you won’t miss out on is the lawsuit if you get in an accident and the investigator finds out you are running on illegal tires! They will call it “ willful disregard “!

A fair question: At what point is the insurer themselves culpable? Virtually all guaranteed replacement value policies require photos to be submitted as part of the approval process. Any specialty insurer should know what to look for, whether it be Billboards, missing seat belts, etc. And in performing their own due diligence, they would deny coverage. Also, in many cases the tires may not be a contributing factor to any accident (i.e. someone runs a red light and you're T-boned...the accident is unavoidable). As with most things in life, it depends.

Link to law firm that specializes in DOT violations.
It's focused on commercial trucking but still interesting.

Interesting article as it pertains to Michigan truck laws. Unfortunately, the article focuses on visible defects on a tire and does not specifically state anything with respect to the legalities of driving on non-DOT tires.

I’m not trying to be argumentative, as it’s a great subject. I’ve just yet to see any definitive evidence or actual court case references that support one stance versus the other (for passenger vehicles). If you want to be 100% compliant then buy the Avon’s. Otherwise, enjoy your Billboards and be prepared to change them more frequently and possibly (but not definitively) also be prepared to be denied coverage and/or a claim.

I asked in another protracted discussion of Billboards and DOT and liability.

Do you want to be the one to try to find out?

its a very well known topic with high end dealers such as Kirkham and Denbeste that often times people will get 2 sets of wheels, one for car shows and one for driving... just saying...

Very happy with my new Avons compared to the Yokohama’s that were on my Kirkham!

Dang, it'd be cheaper to just ask for an opinion from your carrier.
