Not sure why my reply last night did not bump this thread.

I left a message for Karen, she did not return my phone call. I hope she keeps me on her list. I would be very interested.

RodKnock-
I emailed Karen at Halibrand a couple weeks ago on this subject and they got back to me with basically the same info that Lew has reported. I am also on the"list", she sent me an email confirming this. No timetable at this point, but I hope its within the next few months.

The magnesium are fantastic but you can get old school look with aluminum. New Mag is not as the 60's, more alloy in them. I used Scotchbrite on my aluminum to knock out shine and Dave used paint: Nice old school that stays that way ....
New Casting Magnesium .... Fantastic!

I just heard from Halibrand. When they make 427 (or any other style of) wheels, they make them in batches of at least 100 of each size. That would mean 50 sets since the fronts and rears are different sizes. The price for the fronts is $765 each and the price for the rears is $795 each. While M&A Castings was interested and make great wheels, I am not sure that they would come in at this price point.
While we probably cannot get pre-sale orders of all 50 sets, it certainly would help bump this project up the Halibrand production ladder if we could get a strong indication of how many would be interested.
The wheels would be 15X8(f) and 15X10(r) (each a half inch wider than stock) pin drive.
Are there any takers?

Cool, that's two sets so far.
David and Thomas: you guys are good for 48 sets, aren't you?

Lew, if the fronts clear the Kirkham big brake option, I'm in.

Just a followup to my question above.
Would anyone know if these Halibrand magnesium wheels have the same offset as the Trigo wheels as supplied by Kirkham? I would really want some "mag" wheels.

I'm pretty sure the magnesium wheels are 3.5" backspace on the front and rear.

According to Karen:
"Yes I have had contact with the a club member and I did tell him that when make batches that they are usually a 100 of each size. I have maybe 6 or 7 people that are interested."

I don't know for a fact, but I believe so. I think the Trigo's were copies of these except in aluminum. Trigo's website has so much information it's hard to sift through it all.

I asked Karen if she could dpeculate on a production date. Here answer was as follows:
"I am trying to get a production date from my boss, we have been having a inquiring on these. So I am hoping that it will be this year 2008.I have been putting my list together for him and hopeful he will come to a decision soon."

Ya know, with maybe just a little bit of marketing they could sell 50 sets of these pretty quickly. How about a banner ad right here on CC? Maybe some mention of them on their own website?
Maybe theres a reason Halibrand went bankrupt a few years ago.

I'm curious to know where Halibrand is these days. Last time I knew (the SEMA show 2 years ago) an Asian company was hawking Halibrand wheels and they said they had bought the name and the rights, but would not be making Cobra wheels. I have to imagine the name was sold again since then.

If they really do need a 100 orders or thereabouts to get going, then it could be a very long time before they're produced. Bummer.
