I can't decide wither to paint mine first or after their on the wheels. I also should put in my car lift in the harage, so I can test it out by removing the wheels ect....:confused:
G- do you mean just like using a tire dressing to make the black shine or something different ? |

I have probably,....10 different tire dressing in my shop and all work about the same. A few last longer but, they have more silicone and take longer to dry but, last the longest. Most any brand will give you good results. I apply mine and wipe off a bit, so their not too shinny. I prefer the "new look". At a show, I'll do all the tread that is showing, not just the nice looking sidewall.

I finished cleaning them up and painting the letters last weekend but haven't had a chance to mount on the car. If the weather holds out I will try them out this weekend. Well they are actually rain tires... right?

Man, they look great !
What did you use ? (I bought Ranger). Did you paint first or after mounting ? It's still pretty cold here so, I don't know when I'll get started. |

I used rubbing alcohol and a rag to get the old paint off... plus elbow grease of course.
I did use the ranger paint for the first coat on three of the tires. I should have cut the paint to make it a little thinner but I’m a rooky. There are brush strokes visible once you get up close plus the paint brush is a real pain. In the mean time my wife brought home two acrylic paint pens from Wally world. What a dream to use. I finished off a total of three thin coats on all the tires. It going to be very interesting to see how the paint holds up. The car has been on jack stands for a week now as I was modifying the suspension with new shocks, springs, sway bars, and.... totally crazy. I will drive the Yoko's around until the suspension settles and I dial in the shocks. Once I put a few miles on the suspension, today pending rain, I plan to put the car back on jack stand and go over the bolts one more time. After that I will mount the BB's on the car for their first outing. Take your time if you decide to paint the letters. The first coat is the worst in my opinion. Regards, Ed |
Red- make sure,.......to read the page, how to apply "Saran wrap" to your clean tires, so you don't get grass blades in the tire tread. :D

Your tires look great. I just returned a set back to Carroll Shelby. They looked like some 10 year old kid spray painted the letters and they were 1/2 off the original Good Year Markings. I paid $1,003.00 for a set.
I hope your tire paint lasts. When I tried to paint my tires with marking pen they cracked and yellowed in a few weeks. But for now your's look great!!!!!!!!!! Race-it |

But we all have to realize that these are foremost racing tires and I don't believe Goodyear is investing a whole lot of effort in making them purty. What still confuses me is how their yellow lettered tires all look so much cleaner but these always look like crap.
