Tremec TKO 600 problem
I just installed new transmission today & drove around in the beginning it was just fine. All of a sudden it starting popping out of 4th gear when I let of the gas. Shifts in a gears smooth & no problem. New tremec shifter does not have any stop blocks in it. By the way there is no carpet or other restrictions around the shifter. Clutch engages and disengages just fine.
Has anyone else had this type of problem? Could use some input please.
Thanks!
Mike

You mention that there is no restriction around the shifter. Does that mean there is no boot on the shifter? The problem you describe is caused by the boot in the vast majority of cases.

Yeah, mine did it for a while when it was new, the shifter would just slide back into neutral when the RPM's were just right while going down hill with no throttle. I think it was th carpet or boot...who knows, it doesn't do it now.....over 10'000 miles on it now.

Mine does the exact same thing with about 700 miles on it. As long as I am pulling, it stays in gear. If coasting, it will occassionally pop out. No other gear, just 4th. I suspect it's the boot and am not really concerned about it.

I have no carpet and I have no boot on it. The guy at D & D are talking to Tremec about warranty issue.
I hate to say it but to me anytime a transmission pops out of gear it is big problem. We will see how Tremec handles it.
Thanks for the input.

Maybe.... maybe not! Most transmisions can be easily shifted in and out of gear without the clutch if the RPM's are just right. When the RPM's are low, no pressure on the throttle and a neutral situation the shifter will slide into neutral.
Most truck drivers shift entirely without the use of the clutch on 13 speed road ranger trans., just using the RPM's and thrust..no big deal. The only time the clutch is used is at intersections when the truck is stopped.
The point is, neutral thrust and RPM's will make the trans. shift easily..into any forward gear, even the Tremic TKO 600...I've done it.

I agree.
My TKO-600 had a couple thousand miles on it when I bought the car. It has never slipped into neutral from any gear. It has carpet and a boot.

My rubber boot caused my TKO-600 to pop out of gear. This is very common. I changed my boot to a leather boot and now have no issues whatsoever.
However, your problem sounds different.

Update:
Talked to Don Walsh Sr at D & D Performance, he setup an appt for me with Anaheim Gear to take the transmission apart. He stated that 4th gear should never pop out. This will all be handled under Tremec warranty with the help of D & D.
I want to share with you that D & D Performance has been great, very supportive and understanding. I like doing business with people like Don Walsh. If you ever need transmission or clutch parts I highly recommend D & D Performance.

Mine will pop out of 2nd, 4th, or reverse. I never thought about the rubber boot being the issue. I will look into a leather one. Anyone have a good source?
