Default Ford 289 - 5 Bolt Flywheel/Clutch and Plate

Hi Guys,

Wonder if anyone can help and give advice to me , as I am currently tearing my hair out!

Will be running a 1963 - Ford 289 (5 Bolt Block).

Not sure which rear end yet (it will be Jag but cannot source a 3.31 so it will probably be a 3.58)

Engine will be stroked to 331ci with BHP output around 400+.

It looks like, I will be using a TKO 600 (26 spline), purely because of my preferred gear ratios, but I am sure a TKO 500 (10 spline) would handle the Torque just as well.

The problem is when you start to look into this the options appear to be limited?

10.5'' Disc and Diaphragm Plate sounds easy enough, but I cant find one. If you want 10 spline there is plenty, but if you have to go 26 spline then options are limited to kits in excess of $1000!

OR have I got it completely wrong??

Any solutions /comments welcome, as always

Thanks

David

The Flywheel will be a RAM 1527

Make sure your tranny will bolt to the 5bolt bellhousing. I’m unfamiliar with your adaptation but, the bellhousing has a different hole size, as well as bolt pattern. Im sure you’re aware of all of this. I found an HRA iron bellhousing for mine, at a faction of the cost of an iron Cobra Bellhousing. Unless someone is making them now, blowproof bellhousings are tough to come by, for the 5 bolt block.

You will need an adapter plate between trans and the bell housing. Most Mustang supply houses should have them. These adapters were popular when installing the old t-10 and Tremec trans into early Mustangs.

I'm running a Double Dynamic, Dual Disc, Stage 47, Mega-Blast Ultra-5.

I used an FRPP M-7563-C302N pressure plate, billet steel flywheel with replaceable heat shields. The whole assembly cost me $600 to build in 2011.

The flywheel did not have the replaceable heat shields, I bought those and the floater from Crower and added them myself.

I found Google was my best friend when I was searching around for pieces. I suspect you might be able to do something similar if you use Google to search around also.

This is what the assembled unit looks like
