Question Clutch/brake pedal assemblies

I am in the process of building my Cobra from the rolling chassis stage. The Chassis came with a newer style Mustang clutch and brake pedal system. The clutch has a quadrant which uses a clutch cable to disengage the clutch. I have a 289 with a 4 speed toploader tranny. Can I just switch the pedals to a 66-68 Mustang or Fairlaine pedal or is there any aftermarket conversion parts to solve this problem? I am leaning towards a clutch slave hydraulic type system. Can anyone help me out?

Gerry,

First, what type of bell housing/clutch fork combo is in your car now? Cable release stuff as used on later Mustangs require a "pull" type cable, i.e. the clutch fork is pulled towards the front of the car to release the clutch engagement. Early model Mustangs like you mention use mechanical linkage and a 'bell crank' to push the clutch fork toward the rear.

Either foward or rear ward release is possible with external hydraulic slave cylinders. Some fabrication is usually required to mount the slave so that it pushes or pulls in a straight lline..... if it's off a few degrees, it will wear out prematurely.

Brake and clutch pedal assemblies are available from Wilwood and Tilton (and some others), with either single or dual brake master cylinders. They also come in different mounting configurations. Visit their web sites to see what you need.
