Chaplin,

I have spoken to 3 people who have gone through the process. 2 were with Cobras (1 guy had done 2 ERA's!) and 1 person who did a Lambo kit in the late eighties. Everything in this thread appears to be accurate according to what I have heard from the folks mentioned above. Here are some additional things:

Make copies of all of your receipts and MCO. You will not get them back from the state.

For the engineering inspection (the inspection to get your title): Sidepipes without heatshields have not been an issue for the folks mentioned above. YMMV. The motor you are using must have the pollution controls installed that were required for the year of the block manufacture. The carb setup (2x4, 1x4) can only be used if it was available the year the block was manufactured. If your engine builder can not supply a document stating that block casting numbers XXXX represent engine block year XXXX, then get a Ford dealer to put the info on their letterhead. A statement from your engine builder that the motor is 40 years old and can not be traced to a specific vehicle (VIN number) will be helpful. This all seems like a lot of hoops to jump through.

I will be taking delivery of a Southern Automotive 427 next week. The motor will be in my SPF in a couple of days and then I will start the NJ titling process. I will keep the board posted.

Robert
