Default The cost of building DD Cobra !

My D'D Cobra is in the paint shop at this time and I thought I would put down how much it cost me to build it roughly. All the parts are new except for the engine and tranny. Engine is a 302 5.0L EFI rebuilt by myself and converted to carburetor,I kept the internal original components, just rehoned cylinders, put new rings, bearings, gaskets, new timing gear set,Stewart water pump,March pulleys,Weiand intake,Holley mech. pump,Holley 570 Street Avenger,Ford racing spark plug wires,MSD ignition,Edelbrock air filter, braided fuel lines all around.
I won't get in details but this is just an estimate based on all my bills, that doesn't count my gas to the part stores and time, just parts.
So far with the car in the paint shop,I invested around $37,000 CDN + $10,000 CDN for the paint job.
- I bought a roller chassis with "TEAM III rims" on "KELLY CHARGER" tires 295's in the back and 235's front (those are not included)
- I had installed a flaming river stainless steering column, that's an option.
- Paid $300.00 to get the suspension set up and that was cheap.
I'm doing my interior with carpet for the floor and black vinyl for tranny cover and backwall, also made my own door panels.

In the end that car will look stunning painted in Lexus Indigo ink with black stripes and pin stripes. So here you have it ! It's not cheap to build if you don't cheap out on parts and I was conservative, was it worth it,well maybe not so much for the money invested but yes for the satisfaction and it's a good ego boost !

Michel

Hi Michel, mine fell into about the same price range. Of the items that I kept track of it came in about $42K +/-. but I know I have spent $2 to $4 k more on some misc. parts, nuts and bolts, labour for tune ups alignments and getting ready for registration that were not documented.

Good luck and enjoy. Can't wait to see your pictures.

Wayne

I was surprised as well how much it cost me. Parts cost ads up very fast. I never expected the investment to be so substancial. For the money I could have bought myself a nice Porsche but who gets the attention if you put a Porsche beside a Cobra replica in a parking lot, just check around and you'll have the answer and we all know that so I'm glad I did it and there's no regrets, you live only once. My wife's bonus went on the car for the paint job but she's o.k with that,it keeps me happy since my golf career is over due to some complications,I needed something to keep me busy. The journey is almost finished but I will still improve the car afterward even when it's finished. It's never really finish with this car, always something to keep you busy, can't really say that with a new car. Thanks Donald for making a very nice product, sorry if I was a little hard on you sometimes but I'm not a very patient person,I expect too much sometimes. The quality of the car is appreciated by a lot of people that look at the car and the compliments were flowing even without the paint done and I can't only imagine what it's gonna be after my paint work is done.
Thanks also to Greg (you know who you are) for your support and good tips, you made my build easier,I'll see you this summer for sure.
I will post pictures as soon as the beast is back from the spa, probably in may sometime, the work has started and Bret at BRM said he will do a great job so we'll talk again boys

Thumbs up Update on my DD

Picking it up my DD from the paint shop tomorrow after 1 year in there, finally coming home so I can finish installing the carpet. It's a $50,000 kit car,yet the appraiser has yet to come back to do a final appraisal, paint was just $10,000,no big deal I offered to give him my arm instead. Blue Indigo ink with black racing stripes looks really hot... I will try to put pictures up sometimes if I can figure it out. This car is attracting sooo much attention,I don't even have to buy a porsche cayman anymore !!,well maybe when I retire. Now it's time to drive and enjoy it finally !

Michel

Joe,take your time and you will have a nice car. Thanks to Don for helping me out sometimes,he was always there when I needed help ( A manual would be nice ) but he needs a secretary still to take care of the paperwork and to track the parts to be shipped, this is all constructive criticisms. It was a lot more than I expected but now I can just look at it and appreciate . I counted all my receipts and I came to $50,000 including my $10,000 paint job, that doesn't include the trips to the part store, but I might have said that already, anyway keep us in touch with your progress, have fun with it !

Michel

You got that right and on top of that this guy which says that they are super good and meticulous at what there doing couldn't paint my trunk stripes right.
I found out that in the sun my trunk stripes are not the same shade than the rest of the other stripes. The car looks gorgeous but he screwed up on the trunk, why ?? I couldn't beleive it,now I have to go back there and show them the screw up. Unreal what people can do,I'm so pissed

He's probably on vacation because I never had a hard time finding him except when he was moving.

I did try those numbers and I did leave more messages plus sent him Text message. I know he's getting the text messages but I don't know why he is not replying back.
