Default WCCC Iron Butt!

Greeting from south of the Mason-Dixon line! I've decided to move my car to Fla for the winter. I just hate to stare at the car 6 months of the year!
I had planned to drive to Atlanta and meet up with local folks and drive Tail of the Dragon,Blood mountain, and a few other sporty roads. With the weather as a major factor, I had to leave early and head straight through to Florida Headed straight down through Illinois as I flirted with the rain in southern Il. Got to Atlanta in 12 hours flat and took a few hours to shower and nap.The next morning I bugged out and made it to Melbourne Fla in @ 8 hours.
These cars beat you up a bit on the lonnnnnnnng drives. A thanks goes out to Jerry and Corey for setting up my car. The car ran wonderfully at higher than legal speeds and I got better gas milage than my mini-van! MPG was @ 23.5!
There's an active car club here in Melbourne and in Dec I may be taking the car to run my car on the track at DAYTONA! We'll see how that all works out.
All said, it was a great trip, but I would have enjoyed it more had I done more along the way. I do miss the rolling hills I have right out my front door though. Here it's like driving around on a pool table! Not too many hills to power up or slide down!
Later,
Sten

Sounds like a good trip, a little rough. Maybe you can hit the Dragon when you bring it back in the spring?

I hope to get to the Dragon in November with a few of the Hotlanta crowd. It's only a bit of a ride!

Sten,
Congrats. on the good trip and the fantastic gas mileage! I trust you're staying in the Melbourne area for the winter? If so, great choice. I'm from that area and we visit as often.

Be sure to check out Kissimmee-----the Old Town section. They have a car show every Saturday and it's pretty impressive. Cars from everywhere and some unusual ones at that.

Also, check out the track at Sebring. I haven't been in quite some time but they used to have periodic events that were worth attending.

On your return to Illinois, consider a different route. We catch I-10 at Lake City and go west to Alabama (Highway 231). Go North up through Alabama to Nashville and then West on I-24. A little bit longer drive but more to see and different types of terrain.

Enjoy the warm weather of Florida. I'm envious!

Harold

Smile hello

If you take 231 in Alabama you will pass through Montgomery, North on I-65 to Birmingham, then 90 miles to Athens. We have a lot of Cobras in this area. I live 40 miles west of Athens.

You would be in the heart of the North Alabama Cobra Club.

Give us a call and we'll buy you lunch or supper or breadfast, something

Dwight

Steno, I'll be heading south to the Phoenix area in less than two weeks. Not as brave as you, I'll be towing the snake through hopefully rainless and snowless weather all the way.
Phoenix to the Tampa area is about 1100 miles, maybe we can meet about half way.
I thought this would be a quick trip, I may be wrong, unless I screwed up on using Mapquest. It showes a distance about the same as from IL to AZ.
Hey, maybe in the middle of winter we might be bored out of our heads and we'll meet each other in Norlands!
