Default Passing of spfcobra2567

Hello everyone, my name is Eric and I am the son-in-law of spfcobra2567. It is with a very heavy heart that I am bringing you the news of his passing, known to us, his family, as Alan Antonides. Alan passed away yesterday 12/05/12 at home, losing a battle with cancer that only began in April. Alan was 62 years young.

I have only known him since early 2009, and in that short time have learned what a truly incredible and special person he is. He retired in 2011, finally reaching that day that we all look forward to. Al always had a passion for the Shelby Cobra, and it was something he constantly talked about. I remember the day his cobra was delivered, and he took each family member for a ride. He was beaming. He purchased it in 2010 and no one deserved it more. I went to a few local car shows with him, and as you all know, everyone walks towards the Cobras. One of my favorite memories of him is just knowing he was pulling into my driveway by the unmistakable rumble of the cobra.

I am not sure how many of you know Al personally, I thought this would be the best place to leave this post. It was important to him that you were all notified. He left us his username and password to do so. I think he participated in a very few Windy City gatherings, and if his life was not cut short by this horrible disease, you would have probably seen him a lot more over the past year.

I will return and add a picture to this thread within the next day or so. In the meantime thank you all for your friendship and prayers. The next time you go for a ride, do me a favor and punch the throttle once for Al.

Very much saddened by the news of his passing.
There is a personal message in Alan's inbox.

He was at the 2012 Holiday party, so I think I met him there. Sorry for the loss and our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Last week we lost my brother in law also.

Tough time of year for a loss like this.

My thoughts and best wishes to Al and his family. And, per your request, know that I'll stand on the pedal just for Al.

Very sad to hear of Al's passing. He and I often met at events and breakfasts and lunches with our cars. He loved that Cobra, even with it's occasional foibles. He'll be greatly missed.

At least Al had the pleasure of a good family if your thoughtful post is any indication.

God bless you all.

I just very recently joined this forum as I am about to pick-up my very first Cobra Replica this afternoon. Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to meet or know Alan.

It is with a heavy heart that I read this thread and my heart felt sympathies go to you and your family. I will punch ther throttle for Alan later today!

Al and I retired at almost the same time...something we shared in common besides the cobras. God be with his family.

Also sorry to hear of your family's loss, Lee...it's never easy.

I met Al and his wife at a few car shows this past year and saw him in June, invited him to our annual club picnic. He didn't show, as he thought he might have had another thing going. Too bad, we will miss both of them and that unbelievably beautiful car. Rest in peace Al.

For those of you who may have known Al.... He is the first one in line in this first picture wearing the hat. I am not sure if this is a trip with you guys or one where he went to Ohio. At his wake we parked his Cobra at the main entry, he would have liked that I am sure.
