Default June 10th Trip Report to Joe's Summer Home

Although the rainy, damp, cooler than normal June 10th weather was not conducive to a long distance cobra drive, a dozen plus WCCC members braved the elements with their “daily drivers”, and enjoyed a fun filled day at Joe’s summer home. The aroma of freshly baked chocolate brownies, muffins, hot coffee greeted everyone on arrival and we enjoyed assorted fresh fruit and bakery goods thanks for Joe’s gracious hospitality. (Read: Joe’s daughters are really great cooks!) After breakfast, we left for Galena driving along several twisty, hilly county back roads, Hocking Hills Ohio type, complete with a scenic waterfall. (Everyone agreed that that we definitely must drive the route again in our cobras.) Galena is a very rustic river town complete with a unique shopping district, eclectic restaurants, bed and breakfasts, etc. as we spent several hours shopping or tasting at a local brewery. After a spirited drive back to Joe’s place, we spent some time lounging and telling stories at Joe’s spacious five-bedroom summer home overlooking the lake. While we were discussing our cars and LCS travels plans, Joe and his daughter’s prepared a veritable dinner feast. They not only cooked the requisite Italian pasta dish, but also grilled, sausage, brats, chicken, made several salads, etc. But dessert was to die for. Joe’s daughters made homemade tiramisu with real Italian mascarpone cheese. (You know what I’m saying if you’re Italian or enjoy Italian cooking. Did I mention that Joe’s daughters are really great cooks?) Everyone had a great time and fun filled day. My personal thank you to Joe and his daughters for their invitation, hospitality and the extra pounds I gained. But it was worth it.

We’re planning another cruise to Joe’s later this summer, hopefully warmer dry weather will prevail allowing some spirited cobra driving. So stay tuned and keep the tires on the road.

Default Joes house

Or should I say Joes daughters house?

Man o man, what a great time! for the wussies that left the same day and didn't stay over night you missed a great boat ride, and of course more eats!

Man those girls can cook, and to qoute Lisa "I just really like feeding people"
That is an under statement as she continued on ... "O.K. everybody now comes the desert, and O.K. now just a couple more for everybody, Oh,
you guys didn't eat any fuit, Have some pineapple, oh, and don't forget watermelon...." as Francine help serve it up.
How could you possibly say no, to those sweet faces?
Needless to say we got worse gas milage coming home as going there.
I refuse to believe Marty's theory quote; "Were getting poor mileage because we had to slow for traffic at the toll booths".
I think at least in part, it was the extra weight from the great food that Marty ate.
Joe , Lisa And of course Francine,
THANK YOU FOR A GREAT WEEKEND!!

Default Eat at Joe's

Wow sounds like you guys had a fullfilling experience with some gracious hosts. Where are the photos? Hey Frank, what is the real story as to why Arcy and Marty have to sleep in the boat next time?

Hey Jeffko,
Why are you asking Frank?
He wasn't there.
He only stayed long enough for two beers and a little grub.
We're gonna have to start calling him "Two Beer Frank".

Arcenio: Make that "three beers and half a bottle of wine Frank".

Jeffko: I actually waned to stay the night but had previously scheduled an early Sunday morning family commitment and had to leave around 7:30PM.

Frank, if you were in the middle of all that fun with Joe and girls, I would have had the family committed also.

Mary and I also had a great time, we have wanted to get out to Galena for years but never took the time. It was great, and one can not say enough about Joe and his daughters hospitality. For me the Windy City Cobra Club is not just about the cars its more about the people. Great time with great friends! I sure hope that we all plan another trip out that way in the near future.

P.S. Arcy, Marty and Fred the reason I could'nt spend the night is because,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,,,Mary is afraid of the dark!!!

Wolfie, poor Mary is afraid of the dark because she knows when the lights go out... you are right there. Who wants a wolfman in the room with the lights out?

To those who missed the weekend at Joe's, it was filled with nice scenery, GREAT food and outstanding hospitality. We did mange to make a good dent in the food; encouragement from Francie and Lisa with "OK, if we all just take one more piece"... The gas mileage would have been better if I didn't listen to Arce and take that shortcut thru Wisconsin.
