Lift building party
Well I finally pulled the trigger, and ordered a lift, it should be here tuesday.
I was so impressed by the "West side Cobra and lift club", that I also wanted to join. So anybody with some "Lift building Know how" (or if ya got's nothin to do on Saturday) is more than welcome to come over for some cold ones and some grub this coming Saturday May 24th around noon. -OR- If you just want to see how one of these things goes together come on over and whatch the master lift builders give orders, Ooopps, Errrr... I mean use their skill and knowledge to guide and gently direct the process... yeah that's better. If your planning on showing give me a heads up... so I have enough to go round. Ok, OK, how about Snake & Eggs around 8:30 a.m. The restaurant is on the southwest corner of Dundee and rte 83 From the restaurant it's a straight shot down 83 to my house. What brand did you get??
|
Sounds like fun. I be there to help. If the weather is good maybe we can schedule a S&E in the morning and then have a run to your place to build your lift.

Sharpe 1,
I went with a Pro-Park 8S, It came with everything except the jacks. I wanted a Bend Pak ($1400.00 more) but funds are a little tight. We have at least three other members that have purchased this same lift and are happy with them. Besides, it will get light use with me. Mostly winter storage the ocasional cleaning or oil change. |
Warren,
I was kinda thinking along those lines. Anybody else for a snake and eggs before hand? |
I would be surprised if I don't have my car back on the road by then so count me in.
|
I have a pro park 7LL which became the pro park 8 and and am very happy with it. It will take care of all you needs in a lift. Makes for great storage. Easy assembly.I used a cherry picker to lift things around.
|
I am in.
Where is the S&E? Rich |

Hey Arcenio
What kind of grill do you have? I was just thinking. What if I brought along a few ribs, you know, just to try out your grill. Now I would not be trying to influence the judging of the Rib-Fest in any way. Nor would I be trying to give myself a home field advantage by getting a lay of the land in advance........ I was just wondering…………... |
Hey you bring some ribs this might actually turn into a party...
|
Okay
Now, I realize there are no judges committed to showing-up. So that must prove I am not doing this to influence anyone. Still I would like to break-in your grill. Is it gas or electric.....I mean charcoal. See - I must not know what I am doing. We will need a head count when we get closer to Saturday; I will bring some Ribs and we can cook while we assemble the lift. Afterwards we can have a few ribs and maybe a pop or two. We can consider what else might fit on the grill and go with Ribs. I think that might officially make it a party. On the assembly note; do you need any tools? Do you have large open end wrenches? Do you have the hydraulic fluid? Do you need any hardware? Should I bring a portable air pump – you may need it to extend the hydraulic ram in order to string the cables. I am not sure how yours goes together, so let me know. |
On the assembly note; do you need any tools? Yes I do
Do you have large open end wrenches? Some not too many Do you have the hydraulic fluid? Not yet Do you need any hardware? What kind of hardware? Should I bring a portable air pump – Sure why not you may need it to extend the hydraulic ram in order to string the cables. I am not sure how yours goes together, so let me know. Where can I pick up some hydraulic fluid? Would NAPA carry it? |
Okay:
I can do some tools – We should be fine I'll bring the air pump thingie – I hope it helps Hardware......... I ended up needing to use some large washers as shims to level the portion that lifts. It allows my locking mechanism to work correctly. I also think I added lock washers & nylon insert nuts. I do not know that it is needed but then over-kill is a lot like over-engineering. Hydraulic Fluid- I have no idea if NAPA would carry it. I am sure your instructions would tell you exactly what to get. I think I went to a place like ‘Farm & Fleet’ to get mine. |
You will need a metric wrench set and 4 foot level.
You will need 3 gallons of medium viscosity (AW 32 or AW 46) hydraulic fluid. You will also need a mission statement, a team charter, aerial photos of the work area, insurance, music, photographer, and most importantly, a white collar management person capable of delegating work, for pointing to things and posing in the photos. I think that position may be filled. A few sheets of cheap plywood to protect that beautiful floor in your shop for damage...I hope to stop by too. |
