If your turn signal switch is anything like mine I would advise against bending the pot metal that it is formed from. I'm not sure that even heating it would be a good idea. On mine though the switch is mounted to the steering column mast via a set screw. If you loosen the column and slide it towards you then you could loosen the switch set screw and move it away from you. JMO...
