Muzzza, as you're cruising down the freeway, top gear is top gear and it doesn't really matter whether there's a clutch or convertor in there.
You've had some cars over the years that would terrify most on this forum, so you have nothing more to prove! Build what suits you.
The 4L80 is the one that is designe on the bulletproof TH400, so a few tweaks will have it able to easily support what you're putting in front of it.
