I haven't watched the YouTube clips so this point may be covered.
There can be a huge difference in what a novice welder THINKS is a good weld and how expert would grade the weld.
The big problem with self-taught is that it usually includes self-assessment. I recommend that you do a TAFE course if for no other reason than to know how to assess the quality of your weld.
