Buy the Aviad pan. They made the originals and know what fits and, even more importantly, works. This is what the correct pan looks like;

It looks proper and it was the original pan, right?

What is the additional tube for next to the dipstick tube?

I got an online quote and shipping is 1.5x the cost of the part. I've requested shipping details to see if I can a better cost on shipping, $1600 is not possible.

Something sounds wrong. You can ship a shortblock for less. Call Aviad and find out what is going on.

I don't know what Armando's Racing Oil Pans would charge to ship to South Africa, but he supposedly worked for Aviaid before setting up his own shop. He built my pan that follows the Aviaid design and I'm quite pleased with it. Please note Armando's pricing includes a pickup tube designed for that specific pan. He's a small shop, so shipping costs may be more reasonable.

If that's not an option, check out the Canton 15-820 and the Milodon 31650 pans. They have kickouts like the Aviaid, but only at the front and not nearly as long as the Aviaid kickouts. As a result they're also only 7 quarts, while the Aviaid pan is 9 quarts. At 6" they're about the same depth. Summit Racing's shipping to SA appears to be much less than Aviaid's shipping charges.

Would this pan fit a 4.25" stroke crankshaft? I asked Avaiad but no response.

Because the pickup trap in the middle of the pan won't allow oil in the rear to drain forward, and vice versa. There should also be a drain plug in the rear of the pan on one side to drain the rear half. That's how the road racing pan for my 460 is built.
