Oil pan opinions
The original oil pan I thought that would work is too deep at 8" that could potentially cause ground clearance issues and am consideringa 6" deep pan instead.
I saw some comments on Aviad, Canton and Moroso T pans but not so much on the Milodon unit. The specific model I'm referring to is 31650.
Thoughts will be appreciated.

Buy the Aviad pan. They made the originals and know what fits and, even more importantly, works. This is what the correct pan looks like;

It looks proper and it was the original pan, right?
What is the additional tube for next to the dipstick tube?
I got an online quote and shipping is 1.5x the cost of the part. I've requested shipping details to see if I can a better cost on shipping, $1600 is not possible.

I am not sure. Aviad would know.

Something sounds wrong. You can ship a shortblock for less. Call Aviad and find out what is going on.

I don't know what Armando's Racing Oil Pans would charge to ship to South Africa, but he supposedly worked for Aviaid before setting up his own shop. He built my pan that follows the Aviaid design and I'm quite pleased with it. Please note Armando's pricing includes a pickup tube designed for that specific pan. He's a small shop, so shipping costs may be more reasonable.

If that's not an option, check out the Canton 15-820 and the Milodon 31650 pans. They have kickouts like the Aviaid, but only at the front and not nearly as long as the Aviaid kickouts. As a result they're also only 7 quarts, while the Aviaid pan is 9 quarts. At 6" they're about the same depth. Summit Racing's shipping to SA appears to be much less than Aviaid's shipping charges.
Edit: Here are photos of my oil pan - for a Ford 460: https://goo.gl/photos/LV32eSaJ4uwCyRWY9

Thanks, Bryan. I was attempting to remember Armando and drawing blanks.
To the OP, Armando makes an excellent pan also and it is quite similar to the Aviad, if I remember correctly.

Thanks Brian,
The Armando pans are very nice.
Would 7qts be too little? I will have an oil cooler with remote filter. That will probably add another qt?
What is the driver to be sitting at 9 qts?
Does anyone have experience with the Milodon pan? The color may not be ideal, but we can fix that!
Thanks

Would this pan fit a 4.25" stroke crankshaft? I asked Avaiad but no response.

Because the pickup trap in the middle of the pan won't allow oil in the rear to drain forward, and vice versa. There should also be a drain plug in the rear of the pan on one side to drain the rear half. That's how the road racing pan for my 460 is built.

I got an Armando's oil pan for one of the 2 I'm still building the other is a Canton. They both appear to be well made, But the Armando's pan looks like the original right down to the details. Plus, with the pickup included it was still, at the time, a few dollars less. Handmade in Laredo, Texas.

I have an aviad pan, and the only drain plug is on the front, which makes it a pia to change oil.

Is this a fact? Was the Aviaid pan a retrofit?

Anything with Aviaid's name on it is a pain in the butt.
If you want something that is "Cobra appearing", then try Armando.
An Aviaid pan doesn't even fit the box they ship them in. You spend hours trying to make the stuff work. Hate 'em.
