I'm not a huge speed freak, but I do like how quick it is!

Approximately 155-160.
Car was smooth.

I have a racing windscreen so that might help and yes it was on a track -- not the street.

Just out of curiosity, just how fast is the windshield and its support rated for?

tt,

I'm not sure if your question is in regards to the racing windscreen or the standard windscreen; however, I have had both on the car and at speed without issue. Actual testing and rating of either is not something I've ever seen data on. IMO the racing windscreen has less force on it and way more sheer strength on the attachments than necessary.

I like that. You might also ask how many people here have shown off for a family member or close friend and then said to themselves under their breath, "damn, that was close -- I better not do that again...."

Speed is relative to the driver and the car. One of my fathers buddies raced at Indy a variety of times. He got so used to the speed that he could pick out a hottie in the grandstands every lap. She had really bright headlights too!

Yes I ran that particular speed on the track at Millers ( Full Track with the 9/10ths mile straight). My Kirkham handles superb at that speed, not lifting or drifting at all . The car feels really solid at top speeds as well as through the corners and on the street. I LOVE MY KIRKHAM

Actually I get nervous at anything approaching 130mph. Unless you have areodynamic upgrades beyond the original design I highly discourage +130mph runs...

That being said the race track at Summit Point's longest straight will allow about 120mph for a 615hp Cobra. So all is good with me.... Be careful if you go over 130mph as it feels like you are driving a dust mop.

As for my other cars, Aston, Lotus, etc... Anything past 150mph is a snap.

RaceDeck- Is yours set up to Kirkham specs? I used Kirkham street specs but lowered it 1/2in (actually that is the way it turned out and I liked the way it sat-so be it) My car weighs 2280 w/ iron heads & block. What does your car weigh?

Default windshield

Bob Johnson said at the dinner table in Atlanta ('95?) that "dropping" the original windhshield on the 289 gave an extra of 500 to 800 rpm.

The single seater version as seen on some 427s reduces frontal area from about 16.5 sqft to 12 sqft. Kirkham could confirm that using their digital data.

That reduction in frontal area is like "free" hp at speed. About 25hp at 100mph to 115hp at 180mph. We did a coast down test a while back.

I find the car much more stable with the small windshield. The wind appears to grab the car by the backrest of the seat trying to lift it up, as well as the front. At 160mph I ran out of rpm (and balls). My buddy does 175mph frequently, with hardtop and closed windows in Germany.

Dom
