Talking

Wait don't go Real 1 I want to explain.

OK I was bringing up guitars and drums in relation to what you consider a Continuation Cobra as being real.

Now my best buddy gave me a duplicate copy of his black chrome kit that he toured with. It was an exact duplicate copy, what would you call it? Copy? Duplicate? Maybe but it was one set of four in that series, so I compare it to a 60's cobra.

Now Jimmy's signature guitars have his DNA on them, fingerprints cause he played them and some are worth six figures because of the material I have with them. They are limited editions of guitars he has in his collection. They are not original but copies signed and numbered and played. Only one called a black beauty there is no original because it was lost/stolen decades ago. I guess these could be called continuation guitars, they are copies of the original.

Now the triple neck acoustic guitar was made for the unledded Zeppelin set on MTV years ago. When I found out one was commissioned I asked for a second one to be made. Both were played at concerts because I asked him to do that. Mine is a copy you can say but it was one of two so it was an original. However the triple neck was commissioned as a replacement of one Jimmy used back in the 70's with Zeppelin. So it is a modern interpretation of the 70's triple necker.

That is what you have not a copy, not a real one, but a modern interpretation of a 60's cobra.

Now if I go one step further didn't Ford do a modern interpretation of a Cobra not long ago. Not sure what it is called but I'm sure everyone saw it. Now after saying that what is a continuation Cobra, really?

Sorry but I wasted my time trying to explain something to someone and got lost. It was a post I made on that $160,000 roller Real 1 posted. That post was for him.

Recent sighting true story .....

Last week I was traveling to Salt Lake City from Northern Calif. I was oustide of Sparks, NV just east of Reno settling into a 7-8 hour drive. I looked over in the Westbound lanes, and on the shoulder of the road was a guy in shorts, jogging along with a 2 wheeled shopping cart, he had a large American Flag attached to the cart. This was about 3-4 miles east of Sparks, I thought to myself "What is he doing and where is he headed?" Weird.!!! 5 Days later on my way back I see the same guy jogging along out near Winnemucca NV. I 'm not sure of the distance but I think about 150 miles. I almost wanted to stop and ask questions.......

Onyx,

In your list of scenarios above, your 'duplicate' drum set isn't really a copy. You said it was one drumset (even if it's #1) in a series of 4 'like' drumsets. Did they make all 4 sets the same? If so, then none are a copy unless they were built with that intention....IMHO.

...and you're speaking my language with vintage instruments. I was professional musician for 15 years, 3 major label deals, etc. I see vintage instruments as being a bit different than cars, although I see the 're-issue' similarity with continuation Cobras. Instruments will sound better with age, especially acoustic ones, within reason (how old is a Stadivarius?). A car is in a constant state of deterioration from day/mile one. Not counting the wear and tear, which is HUGE, there's the rubber drying and even the metal becoming more brittle.

If I had a million to spend on an original Cobra, I'd do it. But it wouldn't get driven nearly as much as my Kirkham. Eventually Clapton retired Blackie. It would take a full resto to get it like new, and then we open that can of worms...

The way I see me and my copy: I'm just doing to it what many original owners did back in the day. I'm making it my own and enjoying it.

PS: Are/were you a musician?

If you're running pneumatic tires on the cart, don't run them higher than 7 PSI. It drags just a bit more, but its a lot easier on your wrist and the bumps go easier on your kit.
