Question on Slide Film

been meaning to ask this for awhile.

I had a stepgrandfather that passed away sometime around 1969-70 or so.
I recently came into possession of the camera he toted around with him everywhere he went. The leather case, the flashbulb accessory, as well as some of those big, blue, flashbulbs. You know the ones, the ones that would scare the beejesus out of you if you weren't ready....
Anyway, still loaded IN THE CAMERA, was a roll of Kodachrome, I think it is.
(i have temporarily put it somewhere safe and can't find it

)
I removed it (yes, i took photography in high school, etc) and took it to a local 'custom type' lab. They said they couldn't process it, and called around Chicago, etc looking for a lab that might be able to.
No such luck.

What should I do???
I would LOVE to get this slidefilm developed, as it would be an incredible peek into the pics he took before he died suddenly of a heart attack.

During WWII, he was a 'classified photographer' in the Pacific, during the end of the war, and his stuff was pretty good. I don't have any of the pics from that era, but just for curiosities sake would like to try to have these slides. of course my grandmother had trays and trays of slides before she died in 2000, but i don't have any of those.

Any suggestions of labs or websites to try???

Does ANYBODY develop slide film anymore???

I don't know anything about these guys, but they are on the Kodak site. You might ask them some questions.

the age of the film might not be the same type of Kodachrome as nowadays. I hope so!!

I took a lot of pictures in the late 50s and early 60s with Ektachrome film while I was in Korea. I have boxes of slides all over the place. I would think that you might be able to contact Kodak directly and they could develop this for you as most of the regular film developing places have quit that stuff years ago. Most don't even know what it is. I used to get a mailer with each roll that you put it in and sent it directly to Kodak and they would then send the slides back. Good luck as there could be some great historical pictures in there. I think the Kodachrome was a better quality picture or slide film but just can't remember that far in tha past.

Edit: Kristen I just went and dug out some of my old slides and they are on Ektachrome Film which was slide film back then. I have pictures on Kodacolor which was a slow film and gave great depth and pictures on some other Kodak film which was a high speed film. I just looked and I still have 8 brand new rolls of the last Kodak Max Film they put out. I don't even know if I could get it developed around here any more as I don't see film for sale in any of the stores now. Just digital.

well I found the 'put in a safe place' roll of film today.... emailed customer service at Kodak and got a good reply (quick, too!) will see if their contact has any ideas.
thanks also for the info Steve 1 and Steve 2 (nice to meet you in Austin, btw) and will chase down these leads. Found the film while looking for something else, of course!!!

the website, on scrutiny, says:

the film canister says: Kodacolor-X, process in K-12.

Right off, I suggest calling BWC local in Dallas. They may be able to set up a manual run. I have placed a call to one of my photo lab techies for a recommendation. Should have a reply tomorrow sometime.

I know the film is probably just ho hum everyday life.... but.... i was just a little girl and remember him fondly. I hope i can get it developed.

Give these guys a shout; they rescued some film for me I thought was a goner.....

The photogs said Qualex but that answer must be outdated given your attempt to contact. The path department has embraced digital almost completely... rockeymountainfilm.com looks to be the answer if you had no success at BWC.

haven't had a chance to call BWC today, and interestingly enough i didn't get email notification about ya'll's replies, and just happened to check now....
I got an email from "Dwayne's Photo" and this is what it said:

gulp!! rockymountain says to expect 6-12 months for processing! wow! (they do it on volume, as needed!) wow! (what's another year, though, after 40????

I ran across this site today. I don't know if they can do your film as I never called and talked to them and they want anyone sending in old film to call them first so they can discuss just what the customer would be happy with, or so it sounds from their site.

The guy I talked to has been out of the business for about 15 years and the shops that he knew of either don't exist any more, or they cannot do your film. Sorry Kristen.

Darn Kristen,

Do I get to claim a Senior Moment for that? I read your posts and just flat missed that. I also called the camera store here that I have always bought my cameras from and they said they only knew of the Rocky Mountain one that you called that might still do that film. I wonder who developed the film for the 1941 pictures that I sent the file to Joe. It wasn't slide or color film though so that probably makes a big difference.
