You are correct that Hurricane's take a front sump pan. My Smeding crate motor came with the baffled Canton pan. I developed a small pin leak at one of the baffle welds on the bottom and am about to replace it. For what its worth, Smeding said they have moved away from Canton pans and are now installing Moroso pans. Here's a link comparing the two at Summit:
http://www.summitracing.com/compare
Aside from slight dimensional differences and dipstick on the opposite side, the crank scraper on the Canton pan appears to be the primary difference. Not sure how important that is. I'm leaning toward the Moroso pan for the difference in cost and many reviews on the Canton pans leaking like I have.

Default Cam and dist gear

Hi,
The biggest problem I see is getting a proper steel gear on the msd dist for the roller cam. You see a fair number of engines destroyed by dist gears, don't ever run a bronze gear on the street, it is made for race engines that change it often.

Default 4-24-18

So, technology seems to reign supreme once again, for in a shade over 100 hours, ALL of the items ordered on this tablet, manned by your humble narrator, have arrived. Ahead of schedule, and intact. Go figure that they can get this done and still manage to explode a 1 lb can of popcorn salt in a way that will baffle me to the end of my days.

Someone pretty frickin' please post how to put up pictures sans photobucket.

I have been using this site, works similar to photo bucket. I did not bother opening an account, just use the Start Upload button.
Once uploaded, when prompted to select imbedded codes, select BBCode full linked. Copy and paste that to your post.

Default 5-4-18 recommendation needed

So, block is off for line bore and cleaning. I'm still torn between 393, 408 or 427 for the rotating assembly. But where I'm lost is the ancillary equipment. Flywheel, clutch, starter, dampener, bellhousing.

What I know for sure is the following. 500-600 hp, tko600, 0 (zero) balance rotating assembly. I'd like sfi approved parts, if possible.

Anything else I need to know? Recommended parts anyone?

imgbb.com is listed in the article linked below. It appears to be a good site, but there are others people may wish to check out or use.

Those are all good sites in that list Brian and I use them all from time to time. I still use the free part of Photo Bucket once in a while but I like the others more.

Default Change in plans

So, I was looking at about 4 grand more, and a probability of NOT getting the car drivable by this fall, as I had hoped (unexpected expenses). I remembered a thread here where the advice given was to get the car running, then upgrade as time and money allow. I came across a 408w shortblock, newly built, forged crank, etc, but it's a 2 day trip (local pickup only). Back on Craigslist, I come across a complete, carb to oil pan, 351w with 2 hours run time. All parts in it are top shelf. Ported heads, roller valve train, forged pistons at 10.8:1. Ill be posting more as I crack in to it and have a peak. Anyone know the balance factor I'll be needing for the flywheel?

I have a Smedling Performance 418w stroker built in 2004 when they were still in CA. Now their in Born, TX and still building very high quality engines. Have not had one issue with the engine. Has about 5500 miles now. I don't race it however, sometimes my foot gets VERY heavy.

Just an update/test. I'm making great progress and splitting off a couple new threads as the build starts gathering some momentum. It has turned into a multi engine build of different "heat levels" and I really would like to share the experience. But not until I get this damn photo posting down. Turns out that the first step is figuring out which cloud service actually won the war to do me the favor of hijacking my photos into their cloud service. Then getting the pics one desires to share all in one easy to deal with spot.

Default Oil pan pic. Way too big! Please help.

Success!!! I ask that someone please verify that yes, there is a photo of an oil pan on your view of the above post, and that it is indeed larger than normal. It appears that I can attach pics directly from one of my folders, just that I now need to resize them before posting. Each step comes with a "PHP error" message and when I hit the back button it does what's asked.

Thanks Tommy. BTW, that pic is the inside view of a Armand's racing oil pan. I may have read somewhere that he used to work for Aviaid? Either way I will say that his work is top notch. Below is an attempt at resizing a photo of one of my Edelbrock heads. Have them out of the box for a once-over and to upgrade the springs. Even though the cam specs put the springs inside the envelope, I prefer them to be in the middle of the window not at the upper end.

Ok, it appears that the photo of the head went OK. I need to know that the size is coming out ok. Then I can actually start posting some good material.
