Default Summit racing HEI distributor

I was considering installing a Summit Racing HEI distributor into my '71 429 SCJ. The p/n is SUM 850025. I was told by Summit that the height from the block to the top of the cap is 9-3/4 inches. They did not have the dimensions for the diameter.

I have an expansion tank right in front of the current Ford distributor with not much room to spare. Does anyone know the diameter over the vacuum advance as well as on the other side where the harness connects?

I have an aftermarket intake that has the thermostat on the passenger side so I'm not concerned about the upper radiator hose like their instructions warn you about.

No personal experience with this one (I have a MSD #8477).

Have you asked Summit that specific question? Their product descriptions are sometimes lacking in detail, particularly when it comes to dimensions, but I've had good luck / experience when I phone them. Often they don't have the information at their finger tips, but they've never failed to go away, chase the answer and get back to me.

Yes, I called Summit but they only had the height information available. They have worked to get the answer for me in the past but this tech rep. didn't seem willing to do it this time.

Food for thought: I purchased a different Summit brand distributor for my 351 Windsor based engine. The distributor was beyond the warranty period by the time I fired the engine. The roll pin sheared within about 50 miles, possibly due to the custom nature of my oil pump, cam, etc. I submitted a poor review of the distributor. Summit offered lots of words, but nothing of actual value to get me to change my review. I didn't. They removed my review. ... My point is that you may be seeing only selected reviews of your product on Summit's web site.

The Summit page for that Dizzy shows repair parts as a Pertronix D4002 cap and rotor (Caddy,Chevy, Olds). The Pertronix catalog page 47 shows those with a dia of 6.295"

I had a starter (Summit brand) go out 2 days after the warranty. They had no problem replacing it. She looked at my account, saw how much I purchased over the years, and said a new one was on its way. No questions asked.
