Ikestaa, the ability to trigger car alarms seems to be directly proportional to the amount of "turn down" on one's sidepipe tips. Each year at the Texas Cobra Club meet (see the current "Car of the Month" photo for a pic of this year's turnout) the cars congregate on the top of a parking garage in Austin. When we leave to go on our poker run, the cars wind down through four or five levels of parking garage, invariably setting off several alarms as they do. The sound of the cars, mixed with a number of shrieking alarms, makes for an interesting cacophony.

The best car I've ever owned for accomplishing the alarm trick is a 70 Z/28 with turn-down pipes on the mufflers. They point straight at the ground. Back when I was in college I would cruise through the school parking lot, looking for a space, and leaving a trail of honking alarms and flashing lights in my wake.

I have heard that the 351 is typically louder than either the 289/302 or FE motors. Don't have any data to back that up, but that is what I've been told.

One of my earliest Cobra memories is of a 427 idling through the paddock at Road America, kicking up plumes of dust from the sidepipes. Don't know about whether it p.o.'d other car owners, but it sure looked neat!
