The problem is not the speed but the lousy drivers.
I myself fall asleep if I have to drive 75mph for hours on an Autopista.
So I try to drive on normal roads, where 75mph is way more challenging. That is usually above the limit. But I must say I am 100% concentrated on the driving and thinking on nothing else.My wife shuts up also.
I enjoy driving fast and taking corners swiftly.I watch the guy in front of me, the guy behind and all the cars around me to see what they are doing.
Being a motorcycle driver I also read the road and drive accordingly
Sometimes I see accidents and can not figure out what the driver did to bring the wreck in that final position.
Over 50% of drivers just turn the wheel and the car drives.
At the least problem they do not know what to do and usually do the wrong thing.
Trafic laws today are made to bring the rules to the level that the average moron can cope with and stay alive.
When I was a student in Germany I developed a good sense of knowing where radar traps might be and I always drive scanning the road ahead for all type of trouble. I never got a speeding ticket on open roads despite driving always over the limit.
I think there should be different kinds of drivers licenses. The ones for the beginners and absolutely inadaptables. The ones for the average drivers and a license for the good drivers who take regular driving exams and get practice on skidpads and track. Speed limits should be set for each driver license type.
But since speeding tickets are just another way of income for the state, things are kept as they are now.
Advocating that speed limits are good can only come from people who are not very good drivers or do not like to drive, who just are fearful of everything with the slightest risk or have gotten old mentally.
Some may feel offended, but that is the naked truth.

Eljaro,
The trouble with the 3 or more different types of licensing is that you are all still on the road at the same time. The beginner would still be in the way of the very experienced and trained drivers. I feel that it is best to set up the laws for the moderate drivers and everyone abide by that law.
JMO,

The comedian Gallagher had the right plan. He said to give everyone those cheap plastic plunger guns we all used when we were kids. Each plunger has a little flag on the end...some say "stupid" and others say "idiot" or "moron". Once a dumb driver accumulates enough of these on their rear quarter panel or trunk, a cop will see the accumulation, pull them over, and write them a ticket for being stupid!

I have an old friend that worked on that movie. He held lights on Public Square in Cleveland. He's a crane operator.
