My car isn't done yet but I have set of 91 Lincoln wires, they need a good cleaning and I like the look of wire wheels on these cars. Carl

I saw someone use Cragar S/S Super Sport wheels, and it looked killer. Very old school look.

I've always been partial to FIA wheels myself but may look out of place on a 427sc.
http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d.../fav289FIA.jpg I also like these wheels but I believe they are Cheby pattern if memory serves me correct. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...ice_wheels.jpg |
FIAs look good on a 427, I think.

Just wondering, I get so much crap from the older Cobra guys for not doing as close to original. I was just trying to figure out if there is a new generation of cobra builders that are trying to make their cars as custom as possible but still retaining the look of the Cobra. I'm 34 and I really haven't found a lot of owners my age.

I'm older but I'm with you on the look you are after. On this forum, it is mostly folks who argue over whether their cobra is a "real cobra" versus a replica. Good folks, they just have different values than me.
Like you, I am going more for the custom look with a cobra feel. I'm putting in a small block that I can maintain and drive regularly, I plan to customize the interior with a center panel, using 17" rims and low profile tires, and I'm going with a radical paint job. I won't even have to entertain all those "serious" questions about whether it's real or not. I don't care. To me, it's a street rod that resembles a cobra and that's good enough for me. Build it the way you want and ignore the comments. You can follow along with my build at http://www.pflanzer-aviation.com/RedVenomCobra |
I like the look of the PSE 17" Kidney Beans I installed this year.

I have a set of Pin Drive 17" PSE Kidneys if anyone is interested. They have fresh tires mounted. About 40 miles tops total on both. Haven't even thought about a price yet

What about Dunlop wheels like a couple of the 289 comp cars had? I think those are beautiful as well as vintage looking.

yeah, I agree with Jeff. I have the Trigo FIA wheels on my 427.

Always lots of positive reviews for my Torq-Thrusts with gray painted centers.

I fell in love with this one at a show. This is not a great pic of the car.
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...G_7139_7_8.jpg Here is the wheel its more like a modern version of a hali. http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...25/ascot-1.jpg This wheel may end up on my Cobra if it looks and fits good. They are curently on my 02 vert mustang. http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...5/legend-1.jpg I'm not sure how they would look. 18's might be to big for a cobra. Here they are on the stang. http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/l...utt225/175.jpg |
I have Foose Ascots a http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...terior_038.jpg mix of new and old

For me, anything with lugnuts just doesn't look right. I do like 17" wheels though and I really dig the look of CV99's knock-off Torq Thrusts. When I bought my BDR I specified 17s but said "No way" when it came to the Nitto tires. For my "Cobra" I just couldn't have something that sounded like neeto'. I guess we all have a comfort level that is very individual.
