Default 289FIA Dimpled Trunk Lid

Just noticed a very nice Contemporary Motorworks 289FIA for sale and saw that it had the proper dimpled trunk lid that duplicates how the originals were configured.

Two questions:

1. Is Contemporary Motorworks still in business? Tried to find their web site and came up with nothing.
2. Do any of the other manufacturers of the 289FIA body style duplicate the dimpled trunk lid? I've looked at Shelby CSX 7000, Kirkham and I think ERA, and do not remember seeing it (at least if I am remembering correctly).

As always, appreciate members response.

Bob

ERA's 289 FIA can be ordered with plain or dimpled trunk.

Bob,

ERA does offer their 289 FIA with the trunk dimples ... see the link below.

Mine has dimples. The ERA dimples are cast into the lid. Some dimples are actually glasses on to a smooth lid. Not a deal breaker to most, but nice to know none the less...

Contemporary has long since been outta business. They made a nice car. A lot of the quality depends on the builder though.

Contemporary has been gone for decade however they have a strong following in the forum section of this site.

Nice thing about CCX is they are a great design with round tubular frame. However their 289 used the 4" tube like the 427 and not the 3" as original.

This car was built by John McMahon NJ.

The first FIA car did not have dimples in the trunk while it was being raced by Shelby American. See Cobra Ferrari Wars by Mike Shoen.

The other cut back door cars (USRRC for example) did not have dimples in the trunk.

The trunk dimples are ugly.

And the attention to detail and the quality of parts used by John were second to none. If you want John's old car you better hurry, as I've dropped the price on both of my Cobra replicas in the hopes that they sell quickly so I can buy it. I missed my chance once, really do not want to miss it again. For those out looking at John's old car, the detail shots can be found by CLICKING HERE

To me gorgeous! One of the few things that make them stand out from the hordes parked at the show.
But then I`ve always enjoyed the Business look on woman!

Dimples on the trunk lid, Cut Back doors, More abrupt fender flares, Frowny snout, speedo on the wrong side, ugly & intrusive roll bar are all some of the strange things that make the FIA car so cool!

Bill,

Thanks for the props! Lots of blood, sweat and tears in that build. It was tough to finish it because of all the time I was spending at the track with the Mustang.

I know you left your DNA on the car when I wasn't looking!

Here is a nice shot of the rear....the dimples aren't as pronounced on the Contemporary....

I'm almost tempted to buy it back myself!

Default Thanks for the Response

As always, appreciate members response and images.

In regards to the asthetics of the dimples, can only say that varied opinions are just that...varied opinions. I personally do not think the side pipes on the 427SC are asthetically pleasing or practical from one perspective (snake bite thinking here), but still love their sound and practicality (from another perspective) of getting the exhaust a bit further off the ground.

Here Unique has a dimpled trunk lid with a reverse hinge to allow entrance to the trunk because of the Lemans hard top.
