First "big" Road Trip
Just got back from driving my ERA 289FIA from Santa Cruz, up through San Francisco and North through Santa Rosa to Ukiah.
Okay, so there isn't much to see in Ukiah---but I have relatives there.
This was a "Daddy-Son" road trip, so I had my seven year-old, fresh out of chemotherapy son with me, and we had a great time. The drive up in the Cobra was uneventful (no need to call AAA...) and the Cobra was smooth all the way up. I threw it into 5th and found a comfortable pace. My Cobra is a very nice driving machine.
While up in Mendocino County, we climbed to the peak of Squaw Rock (this is the monolith you see along the river between Cloverdale and Hopland), swam in Lake Mendocino, and went swimming in the eastern fork of the Russian River (Rushin River, if you ask my son). Good times.
I was really pleased with my Cobra's performance and reliability. Total mileage was about 300 miles, round trip.

Hi Dave, can you help me-
I recently tracked down a 2001 fully finished Factory Five Cobra (1965 replica)- the engine is from a 1987 donor and has 95,000 miles on it. The transmission is from a 1992 donor (not sure about the miles). The clutch and brakes are new- My question is this.. I can pick it up for $15,000 as is. Do you think that $15,000 is a good deal even with the high miles? I can always replace the engine... right? Any insight and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like lots a fun Doug....me and my step dad went fishing in the "Rushin River" several times back in the late 70's when we lived up on the north coast (Eureka).

Talk about making memories. That's what its all about right there. Nice ride and those 300 mile trips will quickly become habit forming. Hope you don't mind if I post your pic.

Not at all---I'm pretty lazy about posting pics. I'll have to pic a few out tonight and add them to the thread.

Sounds like a great time.
Thoughts and prayers are with your son and family for a continued recovery.

That's good glue Doug. Good for each of you, creating memories is what it's all about. He'll be telling his friends for years to come.

My hope is that the memories will stay long-embedded in his brain and that he'll always remember me as a "cool Dad".
