Default Valve Cover Gasket Removal

Okay, so I removed my valve covers that are cork and were glued on (both sides) with Right Stuff or something like that.

I finally got it all off the heads/intake manifold. (FE)

I got the cork off the valve covers, but was unable to get the "sealer" mentioned above off. I have used 2+2 gum cutter and a plastic razor blade and no use. I tried a real razor blade, but already put a small nick on the valve covers.

Any tried and true methods that I could try?

And this works well on Right Stuff? I found removing that stuff from my valve covers when I did my lash to be the biggest PITA on the whole project.

Be careful. This stuff is really flammable. Don't smoke, or have any sort of flame, around it.

Yes it does. And if I'm not mistaken, if you go to the Right Stuff data sheet it lists it as the right stuff to remove the Right Stuff.

When all else fails, read the directions.

I think there are different flavors of Right Stuff, but the Grey version is pretty heavy duty and good for valve covers. It even has a picture of a valve cover in the data sheet. http://www.permatex.com/documents/td...tive/34310.pdf ...and, it indeed calls for Permatex Gasket Remover. I should have mentioned that it doesn't like plastic or paint either.

I think I used the black Right Stuff.

Are the valve covers steel or cast aluminum? I have cast aluminum on my small block and use Moroso blue rubber steel core gaskets. I had a 64 Chevelle SS with cast aluminum valve covers back in the day before RTV. Used Permatex #1 to glue the cork gaskets. I removed the old Permatex with a wire wheel. You can use a wire wheel on steel covers also.
