Ernie, that jogged my mind on something I meant to ask the OP earlier. Did you hear any sort of clatter or tapping coming from the valve train before this happened? Or was it just WHAM and the engine was broken?

N2VENOM 11-10-2010 11:03 AM

It was a WHAM. I had no indication of a problem. I was going about 65-70mph when it happened. Darren

When I broke the rocker shaft on my FE it took awhile for me to figure it out. It actually ran pretty good and the valve adjustment wasn't that far off. That was a loose end stand and both ends of the shaft were still supported by one of the stands, all though the shaft was two in pieces.

Man, I hate when that happens. That's how I got my nickname. ;)

Provided that the components being used are specifically compatible, yes.

And to the guy Marvin above who said that he has only adjusted his solid lifter valve lash once in 7500 miles, but suggests that he would expect to freshen his engine at 20k miles, I submit this:

I have adjusted my lifters twice in 5300 miles and if I had to freshen my 427 FE up at 20k miles, I'd give it to the Salvation Army.

One of the reasons I gave up on high HP boats. Mercury 1075 hp supercharged marine engine has to be freshened every 50 hours at a cost of 25k. The maintenance on my SPF seems like nothing compared to other toys I have owned.

Sorehead!!!

There are two things I want for my Cobra.

A Cammer and magnesium Halibrands.

Of course, cupholders and heated seats are nipping at their heels.

They're just a stroke of the pen away.... Pry that checkbook out of your pocket and quit wanting.

RodKnock 11-10-2010 03:48 PM

Uh, why don't you go find me a really nice set of magnesium Halibrands? They're N/A. I think Chas should sell me his set, since he owns a heavier ERA and doesn't mind the extra poundage.

As for the Cammer, by the time someone is finished building and installing, I'd be $50,000 +/- poorer, unless someone is willing to sell me theirs really cheap.

I'm helping a friends wife as my friend just died. He has 3 original 427 cammers that I'll most likely be selling. He also has about 4 used 427 side oilers and 3 NIB 427 side oiler blocks I'll most likely sell. Let me know if interested. Bob Q.

You make a better listing broker than you do a selling broker. ;)

A brand new set, when available from Halibrand, was $3,120. Yes, I realize they're out of production, but I can wait to save a few Shekels.

.

2658 may be heavier than your tin-foil KMP but it's NOT heavy when you have 550HP. You just added an additional price penalty onto my wheels...:p

What's NIB? New in Box? Hey Rodknock - maybe you were too busy talking about Chas' wheels to ask about the cammers above.....?
