I caught Richard @ Halibrand today. Said he'd call me right back. No word.

On Friday, Fran said he'd call me Monday. No word.

As of Friday, Fran wouldn't take a deposit.

I think we'd have better luck asking the Kirkhams to machine a set out of billet magnesium.

I'm willing to commit for a set (or two), drum up some interest from potential buyers (with this thread) and even do some hand holding with the guys whose business this is, but I'm not going in to the wheel business.

It's not over yet.

ROD-
At the risk of being a huge PIA (actually don't care if I am )-does it NOT make sense to try Bob Lacey?????????

What is there to lose----it's easier than making innumerable phone calls-that get ignored. Those guys don't want your business-period. If one of them does, he would get on here and say so with specific info as to how and when it will work.

I'll keep asking until someone gives me a definitive, sensible answer....

Chas,

I don't know if you meant me (rodneym) but I go by Rodney.

I've got no problem with Bob Lacey (or Bob Uecker for that matter). I'm simply trying to keep the maybes manageable.
What if Richard and Fran say YES?! And then Bob says 'me too'? And then Globetrotters win the title? And the moon IS really cheese? And Patrick gets dirt under his well manicured nails.
THEN WHAT?????

I'll contact Bob.

Trigo basically said, and this is me paraphrasing, "We don't like Aluminum wheels sitting on the shelf, let alone Magnesium." Too expensive. Not enough interest.

We have yet to hear from Fran and Richard.

As Rodknock mentioned, there are other 'forces' at work.

Chas, comparing the Kirkham company to Fran is not, wait for it, I hate this expression............apples to apples.

Fran is just an enthusiast like us, though with more money, since he may be able to take on this Herculean task. I'm not Mr. Moneybags like Patrick and his $25 LED tailights and $1,000 Centerforce clutches.

Your first line is the same song you've heard for months-it has the word "waiting" in it.
Your second line is very promising-it has the word "working" in it.
Your last line is a pathetic attempt at humor by a man on the very doorstep of suicide...

But Fran is the only guy who's made mags recently. Plus he makes other mags on a fairly regular basis...

I've got some hope for Bob, but it also has the word waiting in there.

And I'll save the 'doorstep of suicide' for when I drop in the 800hp beast.

No disrespect to anyone, but this thread seems worthless and is now aggravating.

BTW, there's an old ad here on CC for a set of Halibrand magnesium wheels with tires for $3,200, but the fronts were machined for ERA and thus Kirkham and CSX owners would have to use a 0.4" spacer, which is something I'm not intersted in doing. Not sure if they're still available, but for an ERA owner looking for a set of magnesium wheels, they're an option.

I'm now exploring other non-magnesium wheel options for my car.

Here's another challenge: How many different words can you come up with using the letters D-O-O-M-E-D?

I know buddy and am disappointed. Oh passing on this mag soap-opera fine-don't blame you.
But trendy black is wanting to do something out of boredom. It's against your lightness credo and not a 'natural' finish like the rest of your beautiful car. And painting centers gold will clash with the chrome body work.
If you MUST do something, get yours fine-glass beaded for a more 'vintage' look. Like deese:

My unasked-for 2c...

You're funny. Yes, I'm thinking of those two options.

Before my car left UT, Joe at Kirkham was kind enough to satisfy my curiosity with the unfnished FIA's on my car. I didn't like it.

As for magnesium wheels, I won't give up on them, I'll keep looking on eBay and such, but Rodney keeps making me suffer "the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune."

You see. I'm so ticked that I'm starting to sound insufferable like Patrick now with the Hamlet schtick.

Sheesh! It was just a weekly update.

BTW, have you seen the threads lately?

They'll perk up as soon as Brent's cam gets here and he starts building his SFT FE. And then when he breaks it in and it locks up....

You're right. Fluid, shifting, T5, oil, horsepower, frontal lobe missing......

(just kidding littlewave)

Chas, I do like to tinker with the simpler things, you know, because people (Patrick) think I'm dumb and my wee little brain can only handle so much.

Patrick does enjoy calling me dumb when he can. I thought that "FIA suitcase panel" idea that FatBoy did was interesting and Patrick called me dumb. I'm seeing a pattern here. He hasn't called the mag wheel idea "dumb" yet, but I'm sure that can't be far behind.

Dude seriously-if I owned your car I wouldn't touch it-except to make 600HP music at every opportunity and never think about what wheels are on it. Sorta like a shiny Jamo deal...

Re: Lacey: As Jamo says -"assolutely". You didn't express this guarded optimism about him previously..
