Bending Turn Signal Lever

I read a thread somewhere about bending the turn signal lever when using a VW style lever/switch. I've searched all over but still can't find the thread.

I know the lever is made of pot metal and probably powdercoated. Does anyone have any experience or tips on doing this. I am looking to get a little more clearance between my hand when on the steering wheel and the lever
