Because he LOST. No shame in losing to a beast like the Kirkham but his ego may be a bit bruised

Look at it this way, Tommy, being a fine upstandin gent n'all is giving Blitz his time in the sun, while wondering where he went wrong. He just spent 300 large on his Ferrari, took what appeared on the surface to be a reasonable bet given his ultra high tech ride with launch control and all the rest of the goodies and still lost.
I'm thinking the next race is gonna be one awesome challenge and one that Tommy will win.
Blitz, be careful, Tom does not get to litigate before the Supreme Court and win by being inconsistent in his judgement as to the eventual outcome of his arguments, [read bets].
Just my two cents, guys.
Cheers, John, AKA, tin-man, Zhuhai P.R.C.

I hope Tommy posts at some point, it would be great to hear his take on the events on race day.
Yes he did lose the bet, but he gave it his best shot and it was Dan's talent and car that won the day.
I would say both Dan and Tommy have the respect of a lot of the Cobra guys here.

Please post a link to the final result. I can't go back 11 pages hoping to find it...
I take it the Cobra has won?

Guess what: I did find a spot with free uplink (not so common in Cape Town, nor flatrate) and here it is :-)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTf0b...mbedded#at=186
That link should be on top of the thread that we don't have to dig for it.
Fantastic!
To add: I never doubted the power of the Cobra, my mate does 10.6 in a street setup car with a FI 428, 500hp. But we all agreed on the traction issue and unused ("Cobra pilot not used to") top speed.

I get a kick out of all of these guys talkinmg about dynos being juiced and all of this stuff. I know my dyno my correct because my NHRA Stock and Super Stock drag race customers run what my dyno says they will. Just dyno tested a 69 428CJ Super Stock engine that has to have stock compression with stock carburetor. He can have a solid roller camshaft and a single plane intake and head work but the ports have to CC the same as factory. Engine dynoed out at 755HP, he just went 9.52 at 141MPH in a 3400LB 69 Mustang. This is a drag car with open headers that runs a 1.31 60 ft time, not a Cobra. A Cobra is not a set up drag car. The headers, side pipes, rear ends and transmissions kill them.
Blitz's engine made about 715 HP and would run way down in the nines with a very well worked out 2500lb drag car for sure. The more power they make the more the Cobra headers and sidepipes kill them along with everything else. I deal with customers that know what their car will run within a few hundreds so I can not bull **** them with fake dyno numbers.
Once again I knew what was going to happen in these deal if Blitz could get 3/4 of the power to the ground and keep the car straight. Even with my bogus dyno he still got the job done. There are just to many things on a regular car like these Cobra's that kill power before it gets to the rear tires unlike a real drag car, but what do I know.
Thanks, Keith Craft

Ernie.... there's something on your chin.
If it wasn't for the 55 (or so) gallons of tire bite poured down the length of thee track there might have been a different winner. It was so bad I heard than an ATV got stuck at the 60' mark. They had to get it free with a crowbar. I think a set of E70-15 bias plies would have yielded a 10 second run on that infamous day...

Dyno numbers for horse power is a continuing debate around. Folks point out a ton of variables and how the numbers can fluctuate so wildly. I think there is some validity to that.
I'll take Keith at his word, that his dyno is "dialed in". But as far as dyno's numbers in general, I remain suspect.

I honestly don't think any of the prominent (paranoid) engine builders here try to deceive anyone by "manipulating" dyno numbers. I don't recall any actual accusations here along those lines either... The problem is, the dyno numbers they provide show how much HP & TQ a particular engine can produce on the stand, under very ideal situations. Unfortunately, as Keith said, that is not real world Cobra numbers. Ultra low Cobra RWHP vs FWHP figures tend to be the norm.
Most OEM vehicles seem to have between 11% and 13% power losses between SAE RWHP and SAE "J" FWHP figures, whereby our Cobras show a 20%+ loss.

So when is the road circuit challenge? What are the rules? Double or nothing???
As far as dyno numbers go… great for racers/tuners & bragging rights…but for a weekend enthusiast like me, all I know is when I step on the loud pedal, it brings a smile to my face that won’t go away.
Hey undy – 22 Vipers at the Williamsburg C&C last weekend. We could use some help up here.

Not to take anything away from Blitz, he did a great job of driving, and he won, fair and square. I found it curious how many here have commented how the Cobra really cleaned the Ferrari's clock.
The 2100 lb. Cobra was sporting a "built" all aluminum 511 cu in. dual quad motor with 715hp vs the Ferrari that weighed in at 3384 lb., including the 110 lb. passenger and had a small displacement 274 cu in. motor.
I love American muscle, but considering the Ferrari lost by just about a 1/2 sec., I'd say that Ferrari did a fantastic job.

awe shucks Cobra427, the reference to cleaning the Ferrari's clock was in retaliation for the folks on the Ferrari thread having the same opinion about what the Ferrari would do to the Cobra.
Tit for tat.

The Ferrari did do a good job, but it still crossed the finish line second.
And that is all there is too it in drag racing.
The guys both knew what they had before they started and made the bet, if Tommy thought the odds where against him, I am sure he would not have taken the bet.
Great stuff guys, and it was a fun ride.
