So when is the road circuit challenge? What are the rules? Double or nothing???

As far as dyno numbers go… great for racers/tuners & bragging rights…but for a weekend enthusiast like me, all I know is when I step on the loud pedal, it brings a smile to my face that won’t go away.

Hey undy – 22 Vipers at the Williamsburg C&C last weekend. We could use some help up here.

Excaliber 03-23-2011 03:15 PM

I did get a chuckle out this, Undy, reference, gobs of traction compound on the track

It was so bad.....
How bad was it Undy?

It was so bad I heard than an ATV got stuck at the 60' mark. They had to get it free with a crowbar.

Not to take anything away from Blitz, he did a great job of driving, and he won, fair and square. I found it curious how many here have commented how the Cobra really cleaned the Ferrari's clock.

The 2100 lb. Cobra was sporting a "built" all aluminum 511 cu in. dual quad motor with 715hp vs the Ferrari that weighed in at 3384 lb., including the 110 lb. passenger and had a small displacement 274 cu in. motor.

I love American muscle, but considering the Ferrari lost by just about a 1/2 sec., I'd say that Ferrari did a fantastic job.

boxhead 03-24-2011 07:47 PM

The Ferrari did do a good job, but it still crossed the finish line second.
And that is all there is too it in drag racing.
The guys both knew what they had before they started and made the bet, if Tommy thought the odds where against him, I am sure he would not have taken the bet.

Great stuff guys, and it was a fun ride.

The point I'm trying to make is, even though the Ferrari came in 2nd place, in my personal opinion, I was more impressed with the Ferrari's performance than that of the Cobra. Despite having such a small motor and having the weight and HP disadvantage that it had, I think the Ferrari was remarkable to have crossed the finish line within a half second of the Cobra.

awe shucks Cobra427, the reference to cleaning the Ferrari's clock was in retaliation for the folks on the Ferrari thread having the same opinion about what the Ferrari would do to the Cobra.

Tit for tat.:LOL::LOL:

Been checking in on this thread for a while and as always the comparrison is not equal,as were the muscle car wars of the 60's and so many of the races we read about then.It is still interesting and fun to read about but by no means really means much about what each car stands for.Win or lose either of the two cars would look great parked in my yard.As many years as I have been racing there will always be a winner and a loser that never changes. It all depends on what you want sitting in you driveway in the end.A Cobra will always be a part of our household!

A half a second in drag racing is an eternity.

It was a sucker bet from the git-go. The ferrari numbers were out, the cobra numbers weren't. ET on the cobra was known by the owner only. ET on the ferrari was already publicized be in the neighborhood of 11.2 with an experienced driver. The lawyer got taken by an expert, and quite frankly with lawyers fees being what they are, I couldn't be happier :)

Not true at all. As I posted before, up to the day before the race, Dan had finally run a best ET of 11.25 or so and that was the last and fastest of three practice runs, smoking the tires right through first on a semi-prepped track. At the time the Ferrari had run faster in practice and there was a real concern that it would be even quicker on the prepped track.

A decision was made to go with a fresh track prep for the race and the track manager warned that fresh prep on that track had a history of breaking drag cars, let alone the Cobra's IRS.

The other unknown was whether or not Dan would be able, under pressure, to pedal the brutal little Cobra hard enough to win, which meant launching and shifting aggressively enough, in the zone between blowing out the tires and breaking driveline parts.

I was there and trust me - it was never a done deal. Up to the actual race the pressure and tension was so thick you could literally feel it in the air.:)

AL427SBF 05-29-2011 05:59 PM

Buzz, the bet was made in January. How do you keep a sucker interested until race day? - manufacture a little hype that plays into the sucker's hand. You say Dan's best ET was a 11.25 the day before the race, and then he pops a 10.74 race day? LMAO! No question this was a set up from the start. Dan saw a big fish, set the hook and then reeled him in like a pro.
