Default FAST XFI - need help with timing....

Hi guys,
can anyone help me ? : I installed a 8stack-efi system with a FAST XFI ECU.
I decided to go the 50° BTDC route and installed all things this way...now after starting the engine, the engine idles at about 1150 rpm. I checked the timing with a timing-light and the timing shows 50° on engine.

Now I connected my pc with the C-com software from FAST. Here the "Spark BTDC" shows about 26° timing. The recommended timing for my engine is 16°@ idle of 900rpm.

Question : how should or can I set the correct timing of 16° at 900 rpm ? Turning the distributor until the programm shows the 16°...?

Thanks,

Stephan

I know nothing about this...
But your logic makes sense to me

Good luck, I'm curious to know how the FAST XFI goes with your 427Roush

Cheers,

Not familiar with the FAST system but mine uses a SPOUT connector on the distributor that the system uses to control timing. To set the initial timing on the engine the SPOUT is disconnected and the timing is set (in my case 14 deg.) Once the SPOUT is plugged back in it's all up to the ECU and program for timing from there on out.

I have an earlier system from FAST that uses crank fire. We set the pick up at 50 D. BTDC so that the system can then fire the plugs at the correct timing point dictated by the timing map. You can use another point say 47D.,
but you have to enter that number in the FAST software so the system knows the point to start calculating from. I actually had a problem because the dyno system program and the car pick up were different and I ended up with an overall retard of the timing map of 6D. at the Optima in 2009. When I corrected it by entering the correct location of the pickup in degrees the car spun the tires so much it was harder to drive. I think the fast system needs to have the mechanical position of your number 1 pulse in degrees entered into the fast software, you don't set it running with a timing light. You can check it vs the timing map later with a light but you need to enter the correct reference point first. PS make sure your distributor advance is locked out!

I use the Dual Sync Distributor from FAST that came with the kit. Crank Ref angle is set to 50.00. Inductive delay is set to 40. May this help a little bit more....

You need to actually set the distributor to 50 D. so that the pulse is occurring 50 d. before TDC the software in the fast system will then allow you to tailor an advance curve that matches what your engine needs. After all that, you can start it and check the advance at a specific RPM where you have a spark advance number lets say it is 28 D. BTDC at 3000 RPM you then hold the engine at 3000 RPM and the timing light should show 28 D. advance if it does not you can either move the distributor till it matches or change the reference angle or change the advance curve. I would probably change the reference angle because you won't effect the phasing of the rotor to distributor contacts that way (assuming you have indexed the rotor at optimum position).
If the system shows 30 D. and your program calls for 28 change the reference to 48 D.
Hopefully you get the idea if you move the distributor you can make it work but it wont be optimum.
