Default 78 miles up-date........

Aggggghhhhh, I travelled halfway around the world over the weekend to drive my car today and it was p*****g down with rain, never mind I will try again tomorrow. What I can report is the car looks awesome, sounds great and has a lumpy lope in idle and when the throttle is blipped it roars like an alpha male T-rex. on steroids. The grabbing effect associated with the former high idle has ben eliminated. The current idle is 900rpm. The speedo had 288 miles on it and I am told it handles like a dream. We'll see tomorrow.

Here is what I saw, sound will come later.

Cheers, John, AKA, tin-man

Wow! If it goes half as good as it looks, you've got a real keeper. Hope it is all sorted out for you.

" . . . has a lumpy lope in idle and when the throttle is blipped it roars like an alpha male T-rex. on steroids. "

I couldn't say it any better if I heard it myself! Terrific.

Tires look like the MT Flame Pattern:
Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/R Radial Tires - JEGS
If so they are treacherous in the rain!!

Well, after all the heartache and angst I finally got to drive my car and in a word it was....... AWESOME. It handles and drives like a dream and is everything I wanted it to be.

Thanks to all the folks at Roush and Bowler Traansmission for making it work and to Erick Voss for putting it all together.

Car ships to my home tomorrow and I'll be there to greet my baby on Friday and then its down to some serious seat time.

The speedo has over 300 miles on it.

Cheers, John, AKA, tin-man

Congratulations.

But I have to ask. Why ship it? Drive it home.

That's great news, John. Remember though, drive it very gently for the first 500 miles or so.

Agree with that. Roush has some breakin guidelines, notably they want the break in to be done with 10/30 PETROLEUM oil (not synthetic). After that you can use synthetic.

Putting the engine break-in aside (let's say it was painstakingly broken in for weeks on a dyno and it's now, by anyone's benchmark, perfectly broken in), there's all sorts of other parts on his new Cobra that do need to mate, and taking it easy is the way to go (think transmission, rear, brakes, etc). But the most important raggedy-jaggedy part is him -- and remember he put in an automatic transmission in, which we've written about a zillion times. Some of us say it makes the car less safe, some say "not true." I don't know -- but what I think he should do, once he's put a couple of hundred miles on the car, is take it out to the parking lot at an open-air concert park or stadium that has no light posts, Jersey walls, or the like, where he can safely floor-it, maybe with the wheels not aimed straight, and see what happens when the automatic transmission shifts its gears while he's holding the throttle to the floor. I think it'll scare the shi* out of him and he'll never do it again. But what do I know....
