tuning
I run an Ford EFI system on my Cobra and it took several years for me to get it tuned correctly. The big problem is I'm always on a budget.
Part of it was a learning curve for me and the mechanics I used thought they could help but did not understand the fuel injected hot rod that I had. Each was able to help solve a problem but not all of them. I had a Ford Mustang processor but a lot of aftermarket speed parts that made it hard for the processor to handle.
I found a local Ford mechanic who had a racing back ground that solved all the small problems. Things like 5/16 vacuum hose on a 1/4 barb. A new mass air meter that would not work with my system but worked fine on my buddies Mustang??? Go figure.
A dyno shop in Memphis burn me a custom chip to make everything work together. Not I was making hp and car was street-able.
Fuel injection is simple. You need a processor, coolant temp. sensor, air temp sensor, throttle position senor, oxygen sensor, and a few other common parts, intake, injectors, correct distributor, wiring harness. etc.
The processor receives the information from the sensors and then applies the correct amount of fuel and ignition.
The more horsepower you want to more sophisticated the system has to be. But for the street motor it does not take a lot.
I love it, motor always self tuning for max performance. When it stops working then you have to find the component that's broke. That where you need a shop (or mechanic) that has the tools to solve the problem.
I'm lucky that I have a friend with all the tools and knowledge.
The Eight Stack system will be a lot easier to work with because I can download a program into processor and make changes (that is, my buddy can).
I found a speed shop with a dyno about 80 miles from my house. Jon only works on Ford fuel injection cars and his rates are very reasonable.
$100 an hour for dyno tuning. He will do two pulls for $50 with no tuning.
I think I can get 500 hp out of a 347 with the Eight Stack system. Now I need to find a couple of thousand so I can buy a stroker kit.
