Tire tread tee-shirt part deux.
OK, Part Deux:
I've got the distressed/fuzzy edged tire tread image (about 8" wide and 30" long) for the back of the shirt. Suggestions were to have the tread imprint at an angle on the back (say left hip to right shoulder). Now for the front of the tee. If we want a logo or image/text, I don't want to create any copyright/trademark problems. An iconic Cobra logo may be a problem, but I'm sure you all will have suggestions. Text should be clever but clean (no old drag racing sayings like "Injection is nice but I'd rather be blown"). Something like "Don't get in my way" (lame I know) or "Cobras tread on everything". Tees will be a good/best quality, crew necked, no front pocket in basic white, no other colors so live with it. Limited sizes too probably just L and XL so gain or lose weight to suit. Part three of the process will be to get a count of interested parties and I'll get an estimated tee-shirt cost and estimated shipping cost (envelope, USPS etc. Don't forget the $5 for Wounded Warriors. Part four will be the order set-up and paypal process. Suggestion box is open for front design. Bring it on. Cheers Greg |

For us larger than a bean pole guys, For me I would gladly pay the $5 and have you send me the tread pattern file and then I/we could have it printed on a sheet:LOL: or something.

How about a list of the '65 races when they won the world championship? You could do it in large text, spaced vertically down the entire front like a music concert shirt:
1965 World Championship Tour (all center justified) Daytona, USA Sebring, USA Oulton Park, England Spa, Belguim Nurburgring, Germany LeMans, France Reims, France Coppa di Enna, Italy Or it may look better to put the tire track on the front, and the World Tour text down the back. Or the World Tour text superimposed over the tire track on the back. If the tire track ends up by itself on the front or back, you could substitute "Mess with this and get run over" in place of the Goodyear text along the side of the tire track? |
After thinking about my above post, I guess I'd like to suggest the tire track on the back, with the World Tour text down it vertically in a lighter color to stand out from the dark tire track, and a small logo of some type on the front where a pocket would be.
Buzz - can you lend some creative genuis here? We need a cool Cobra logo that doesn't violate any trademark rights. |

A slightly curved tread down the right side of the back and a pocket sized cobra design on the left front with a list of championship wins listed below would probably look good. All original artwork, of course. Some text following the contour of the tread on the back might also work well.

I also like the idea of the race victories under an image on the front. Just to calibrate my lack of design understanding, which of the full 4 color (CMYK), limited spot color or single color line drawing would the Cobra emblem be? Greg, CMYK is a 4 color process using screened mixtures of base colors cyan, yellow, magenta and black to achieve a near full color effect. Simulated process uses (I think) 7 screens to produce a superior, near photographic screen printing effect, but basically the more screens (colors) you use, the higher the cost of production. Single color designs are the cheapest, followed by solid spot colors, with each additional spot color adding to the cost. once you get past 3 spot colors, you might as well go to 4 color process for a near full color appearance using 4 screens. I mostly produce designs, so folks in the actual printing business may chime in with clarification or corrections.
The number of colors you decide to go with based on cost or desired appearance of the finished product will influence the design. |
How about:
A single, wide tire tread on the bottom left back swooping up and narrowing as it goes over the right shoulder, at which point it is joined by the other tire track, and both swoop down over the front right shoulder to the front of the shirt, where a Cobra (ahem, preferably a 289 FIA...), the source of the tracks is pictured. A nice black/white shadow image similar to the old Castrol ad found in, uh, crickey, I'd have to find the book. You guys know what I mean. Anyhow, got the visual on that? DD |

I agree on the shirt being a non-white one. I understand the need to keep the order simple by not offering various colors, though. It's just that I already have a ton of white t-shirts! Light gray, or light blue, or anything but plain white.
Oh, and you can put me down for four shirts. |

Sounds like a great design that maybe Buzz can comment on re complexity. I know exactly what you mean and know the poster - I've got one. And regarding DougD's request about different colored shirts, I'll ask the tee-shirt shops what their color choices and minimum runs are. Cheers Greg |

Shirt cost are that white and natural are the least expensive , then the ash color and followed by the rest of the spectrum, so there are 3 price levels as far as color. Remember that I said if you are going to work this for charity, then we will provide the shirts and printing for dead cost. I am looking into EXACTLY how large a print we are equipped to do. The 14x14 is the largest size we are equipped for now. I have a couple calls out to see what other pallets are available for our equipment to do something a little taller. If you want to do a print up and over the shoulder, we can't do that but would be happy to send your artwork to one of the business to business wholesale outfits for pricing. The problem with that is they will definitely have a minimum around 500 shirts John |

Thanks for waking me up again on the tee shirts. Been busy on other things. The charity I suggested is Wounded Warriors. I've talked with a number of tee shirt suppliers and an over the shoulder design would be difficult and expensive. So I'm going to try to take the various suggestions posted and come up with a design proposal. I've played phone tag with Peter Brock ( to request his approval of the use of his design idea from the early 60's) but will try to reach him again today. Cheers Greg |
